Chapter 58: Rescue, Part 3

Soon, the road curved around and we came to a stop light joining the main road going through town. Across the street was Mr. McGowan's little store, but I revealed nothing. Jada didn't say anything, either, protecting him, as well.

Within a few minutes, we turned down the road leading to our school, Our Lady of the Holy Cross High School that had been defiled and turned into a concentration camp. "Are you ready?" Aiden asked, looking at me over his sunglasses.

"As ready as I'm going to be," I said, raising the rifle to my lap.

"Hey, point that thing toward the floor," Aiden ordered, gently pushing the barrel away from him.

In the backseat, Brandon laughed and Aiden gave him a dirty look in the rearview mirror.

"Look, everyone," Aiden said, "follow my lead."
