Chapter 25: Almost Like Home, Part 3

"Are you awake?" Seth asked Reese, watching the stars.

"Yes," Reese said wearily after a pause. "But, hopefully, not for long."

"How long have you been here?"

"I have lived in Cambria all of my life," Reese answered sleepily.

Seth could tell that Reese was not going to volunteer more. "I mean on this farm."

Reese took a deep breath and turned to face Seth patiently, knowing that Seth was not going to let him sleep. "Colin has owned this farm for centuries. It has been handed down within his family for many generations."

Seth noticed that he said Colin, and not Father, Dad, or anything of the sort. "Colin is not your father?"

Seth could hear Reese hold his breath in the dark, as if knowing he had said too much. "No, he is not my father."

Seth acknowledged it to himself, nodding his head in the dark. "How did you come to live here, then?"

Reese paused for a moment, obviously deciding how much to tell Seth. "We have been here for four years. Colin took us in."
