Present Day
"Lance," a voice said from a distance. "Lance, wake up. We're here."
I opened my eyes to see it was Leila. I breathed a sigh of relief and leaned my head back against the headrest, Selestra and the events of the past long gone. I was here with Leila and with our son, Jase. "Oh, I'm sorry," I said, rubbing my eyes. Then, I suddenly remembered falling asleep with Jase on my shoulder. "Jase!"
Leila laughed. "I have him. See?"
I looked over at her, and he was awake, playing with a set of keys on her lap. I breathed a sigh of relief, and scrubbed a hand across my
face. "I'm sorry. I must have fallen asleep."
Leila reached over and placed a hand gently upon my cheek. "You were having a nightmare. Are you okay?"
I nodded, reaching out to take Jase from her. I cradled him to my chest, thankful to be in the present.
"What were you dreaming about, anyway?" Leila asked, as John appeared from the cockpit of the plane. Margarite was already standing by the door.
