I had a feeling that there was more to the story, but now wasn't the time. "Kellen, listen," I said, looking up to make sure that Leila wasn't within earshot. "We were attacked by vampires in Aruba."

"What?" Kellen was immediately on his feet with his fists clenched at his side. "What happened?"

I shook my head, reliving the memory. "Kellen, before I tell you, I want to make one thing clear. I don't want to discuss it in front of Leila. She's already been through enough."

"Yes, of course."

I looked toward the bathroom door, and I could hear the shower still running. "I only have a minute."

He nodded as he sat down on the edge of his seat, clutching his hands together, concerned.

"They weren't just any vampires," I began, leaning forward.

"The Outsiders?" he asked, already knowing where I was going with this.

I nodded.

His eyebrows pulled together in concern. "How did The Outsiders know you were there? They must have smelled your blood "

"Kellen, someone sent them."
