Chapter 31: Never Alone

One thing Bae would say about the Cankurians was they knew how to throw a party. The Claiming had taken place just before noon and yet the party was still going on well into the evening. Bae and Armel had received more well wishes than they could count, random Cankurians approaching them with their congratulations. The party was not a quaint, regal affair. It was boisterous. Armel had not left Bae's side since the Claiming, the two of them walking between the throngs of people. For the first time, Bae did not feel like her safety was the most important thing to the people around her. She could barely see her protectors, although she knew they were there hidden amongst the crowd. Bae knew that her new-found sense of freedom was the result of long hours of planning on her brother's behalf and she was filled with gratitude.
