I know my words hurt her. I know enough about her overbearing mother to know that.

The sharp intake of breath only confirms it.

Aurora is now running a catalogue of her actions through her head, comparing herself to her mother.

"Aurora, she's safe. She's tired because your argument took it out of her, so she's resting."

"Our argument? She told you?"

"Yes." I'm impatient.

"Then you know why we argued?"

"Yes."

"And you're on her side? You think she's right?"

"Aurora, let me make one thing clear. For me, there are no sides. There's only her. Whether I agree with her or not is quite frankly none of your business. She knows what I think and that's all that matters. No matter what she decides, I will support her choice because it's her f*cking choice."

"But what if she makes the wrong..."

"Enough. I'm not discussing it any longer so drop it. I will always support her decisions, rightly or wrongly, because she's the woman I love."
