The Judge tells the defence that they can cross-examine and I almost panic. I'm convinced that my face gives away just how scared I am.
If I thought it was difficult answering the prosecutor's questions, I had no idea how bad it was about to get. The defence barrister is not so kind.
DS Kentley had warned me what he'd try to do. She'd told me that he'd try to trip me up, push my buttons. But nothing could have prepared me for quite how awful he is. The prosecutor watches out for me though, objecting repeatedly.
"Were you in a sexual relationship with the accused?"
"No."
"But he was your boyfriend?"
"Yes. It was a new relationship though."
"How new?"
"A couple of weeks."
Glancing up at the gallery, I see DS Kentley. She nods her head my way, smiling encouragingly.
My eyes drift towards Jarrod and his stoic expression gives me the strength to persevere. I remind myself of the advice that I'd been given.
Take brief pauses.
