Chapter 66

No matter what, sooner or later I would have to think about the incredible events I was trying my best to bury with the excuse of no much sleep on the planes. I shielded myself behind the excuse of getting home and starting chores, the excuse of wanting to eat, Benedetta's visit. Now, in the silence of my solitude, holding my front door with my back, trying to keep with all my might the world from entering my space, I knew that across the world someone was probably wondering if I had made it home safe. My bare feet took me to the phone, in my bedroom. On the nightstand, the answering machine light was blinking. I frowned, sure I had heard all messages and then I remember I set the phone on silence as not to disturb Peridot with all the ringing during my absence. I hit the play button and the notes of a heart-melting melody wrapped me in a warm embrace. Isamu's voice came on and I dropped on my bed.

"Porzia. My hands have been at work ever since you left. Let me know you've made it."
