Chapter 21: Joe

Elizabeth sat looking out the window, staring at the stars and, after about ten minutes, she finally looked away from the view and turned to him.

"Are you going to keep me in suspense or are you going to tell me where we're going?"

Joe rested his hand on the gearshift. "You aren't scared of the dark, are you?" Elizabeth scowled at him. "Joe, I stopped being scared of the dark a long time ago.' He shrugged. "Ok, then I have a spot I like to go to when I can't sleep; it's beautiful this time of year." Elizabeth pursed her lips. "Sounds mysterious. I'm intrigued!"

She wanted to know more, but she also kind of liked the mystery of it all. She turned her attention back to the night sky. It was very clear that night, and in the fields around them, she could see the twinkles of the fireflies that filled the air. Elizabeth sat watching as their lights blinked on and off.

"What do you think they are saying to each other with those lights?"
