Chapter 40: Joe

When Joe pulled into the drive at home that evening, he found Henry sitting in his usual spot on the porch.

He climbed out of his truck. "Evening Dad."

Henry stood up from his chair and leaned on the railing of the porch. "Evening Son. Where's that girl?" he asked.

Joe smirked,

"Well, if you mean Elizabeth when you say, 'that girl,' she is still at work. She has an evening function."

Joe reached into the truck and pulled out the things he had purchased at the market. He held one bag up. "I thought we could spend the evening catching up, just you and me," Joe said.

Henry shifted his stance and smiled softly. "That would be great, son."

Joe walked up onto the porch; Henry stepped closer and put his arm around Joe's shoulder. He began to joke. "So, how have you been? I haven't seen you in a while."

Joe laughed. "You see me every day, Dad."

Henry chuckled. "You know what I mean."

They walked into the house.
