"Blast!" she said, then slapped her hand to her mouth. "My apologies, but 'tis these oversized boots. And this monstrous eye patch." She tugged at the black cloth covering her left eye. "I can hardly see."
"Sorry, milady, but yer eyes be far too pretty to pass fer a man's. The patch will help a wee bit, providin' no one looks at ye too close." Sloane slowed his pace. "I'm jist a bit anxious to find the cap'n and be gone from this place." He headed toward a lighted area up ahead from which blared a cacophony of screams, shouts, laughter, and pistol shots. "This town makes me skin crawl."
