Chapter 172

Susu looked around. He stood on some soft green material. Tall brown poles covered with green surrounded him; they were alive! It was all alive! Water flowed over rock. At least that was familiar. Some beings he'd never seen before appeared to be eating the green stuff on which he stood. The smallest of the other beings was about his size and black. It came dancing towards him on four very long thin legs. The head was more or less familiar looking, but its tail was short and lacked a barb. It didn't seem to have wings. It stopped, tilted its head and looked at Susu.

"Hello," it said, the voice sounding in Susu's head. "Who are you?"

"I'm called Susu," Susu said in his own head. He'd done that before, while he was still in the egg. It was simple to talk this way! Easy! He hadn't realized he could still do it. He couldn't vocalize much with his immature physical mouth, not yet. "It's really Suoh-Sugaar, but my parents can't make up their minds. Who are you?"
