Claire Youmans first went to Japan in 1992 and was immediately captivated.  After years of travel and study, she continues to be charmed and amazed by a fascinating history and a culture that's both endearingly quirky and entirely unique. She is a retired lawyer who now lives in Tokyo. Her family, including her daughter and two grandsons, live in Seattle, USA.

In 2014, she started Tales of the Meiji Era with The Toki-Girl and the Sparrow-Boy's unparalleled blend of historical fantasy in the first book of the series, Coming Home.  She continues exploring the combination of history and folklore to share her love and fascination with a very different country and culture.

The eagles promised to return the boat and said they'd return the mining equipment as well.


"I don't think we can put it back exactly the way it was," Akira told Yuta, where he stood with Yuta and Noriko on the beach beneath the cliff, "but I doubt if they'll notice."


"They'll probably just be happy to have it back and attribute any damage to the earthquake," Yuta replied. "How can we thank you and your family?"


"No need. We were happy to help. I would like, though, if I may, Sensei, sir," Akira said, scuffing his feet a bit upon the sand, "to call upon your family. If it would be acceptable to you. I know of no others like me, though I had heard rumors of your nephew and niece."


Yuta glanced at Noriko. She gave a miniscule nod and the tiniest of smiles.


"We would be delighted to receive you," Yuta said formally.


"I'd better go," Akira said. "The dragon" Rizantona spread her vast wings.


"Thank you again," Yuta said, with a wave.
