Chapter 44: Wishful Thinking

I wished right then I had the powers of that engineer from Utah. That I could levitate things or read people's minds. Something to show Audrey that there is magic in the world. Then a more burning question came to me as I thought that: ¨Why could Melinda and this guy do that and I couldn't?¨

'Look, if anything, think of the good things that have come out of this. How is it possible that your dad got well overnight? You told me he had somehow touched the hand of this girl. That was a miracle. That was a sign that no matter what, you've gotta believe everything will work out just fine in the end. Do you believe in miracles?'

'I believe this world doesn't want them.'

'Maybe so. But we do. As long as we're patient with each other, things will swing in our favor.'

'Maybe this will break the spell.'

'What spell?'

'It's a long story. My parents - my natural parents - stole some money from the church, when I was very young. The priest cursed them and their children because of it.'
