Chapter 53: Medicated Goo, Part 53

NARRATIVE of WARD COURIER

October, 2009

SOUTH WALES, WILLIAMSVILLE, and BUFFALO, NY

It was one in the afternoon on the first day of October. I had started another of those classic fall days off with an easy run in the hilly woods above my cottage. The sky was magnificent, and the leaves were just beginning to turn and fly. We'd had a summery September, and that was the first day I could really feel the autumn.

On the way up the winding climb that led to the park I was still reflecting on the summer past. I had won a couple doubles tournaments. Winning is always fun, but the partners for both events were really good friends, and these wins had been special. I had had a couple good singles wins on a 5.0 tennis team, too, and done a ton of mountain biking. I had started another research book that was starting to be absorbing. I was basking in the glow of memory and imagination.
