Author, teacher, storyteller, and supernatural historian Mason Winfield studied English and Classics at Denison University, earned a master’s degree in British literature at Boston College, and studied poetry and fiction at SUNY Buffalo with professor emeritus and MacArthur grant recipient Irving Feldman. From the way the conferences with Lys Mall and her associates in the FBI and DEA were going, I was pretty sure something heavy was cooking. I wanted as much perspective on the matter as I could get.


At least in the upstate, I have a good finger to the pulse of the paranormal. I have lines into its UFO-cults, its Spiritualists, its dowsers, its Bigfoot societies, its ghost hunters... These contingents tend to have their own lines out into communities, and you can learn some very enlightening things if you get them talking. I shook the boughs on all these fronts in the days after the meeting you have just read about. I caught no buzz about blind assassins or telepathy drugs.
