Chapter 75: The Society of Unknown Philosophers, Part 75

NARRATIVE of WARD COURIER/CONFERENCE with TED BENNETT and EVAN DAVIS

If you are looking at this book as a work of fiction, these interviews with the law enforcement people may seem to you like what my old writing teacher/MacArthur genius grant winner Irving Feldman used to criticize as "exposition." One of the definitions of exposition in the literary sense - a novel or play - is "dialogue or description that gives vital information to the reader." I could never see what was so wrong with exposition. I remember asking what the stylistic alternative was, and I don't remember getting a response that was developed enough to be useful. I take full responsibility for not getting it. Feldman's the genius. He can also be impatient. I'm just telling you how it looked to me.
