EPISODE with JASON "SWINGO" JONAS
January, 2010
LEIMEBAMBA, PERU
At mid afternoon, Jonas and Aguirre come to a general store in a small mountain town. They fill their vehicle, then their containers. As Jonas sits by the lolling professor, Aguirre walks off, finds no one to talk to, and returns.
On the sun-splotched terrace of the market, Jonas and Aguirre split one of the area's distinctive forty-ounce bottles, the way beer is sold outside the cities. They sip from paper cups.
"Got a bit of time to kill before our flight gets here," says Aguirre. "I wish I could speed this up."
"I wish you could speed it up," says Jonas. "Cajamarca's closer. They've got an airport. Tarapoto's a big one."
"You're not getting your alien-bit professor on with Star Peru," says Aguirre. "Him or your silver shimmy-stick. Company has a plane coming. Gotta be Chachapoyas."
