Ava Altair grew up reading fantasy and science fiction novels. She graduated from Florida Tech with a BS in Science Education – Physics and a minor in Computational Mathematics. She taught as an AP Physics teacher for five years in Florida. She now lives in Oregon, teaching horseback riding lessons and managing the stables.

Darkness

I pulled into a parking lot few blocks down from "Leon's Original Designs". Remi stayed glued to my side as we walked to the back entrance. I held my hand over the key pad and whispered "Reveal," as I sent a bit of energy into it. Purple glowing bits of oil from fingerprints rose off the keypad in order. I pressed "6490". The light turned green so I opened the door.


The back entryway light popped on when the door closed. It was a tight hallway that led to several rooms. I poked my head into each room until I found one that looked to be a storage room. Locked boxes of gems lined the walls.
