After a moment, he was bored of the talk and turned his gaze to the outside. He looked at the buildings as they passed them by. They weren't that different from those from the city he lived in before. They were tall and that was about it. At some windows, he could see flags attached. He could see people living their lives as if nothing was ever wrong. And, to them, that was true. Regardless of what calamities befall a different place, nothing happened here. So, their lives weren't perturbed. Some might be able to have empathy or pity, maybe anger but they would fade after a few weeks. And most people would forget.

Only those who truly faced the disaster would remember.

He got bored and the engine ended up making him sleepy. He fell asleep against the car window. Sij sighed as he looked at the kid asleep in his car. If god did exist, he was quite unfair when it came to who he gave his trials. Why did such a young one has to go through so much? He didn't like it. But what could he even do? His own life was more important to him. He couldn't act.

As he reached the university, Sij woke up Ron gently. Ron opened his eyes to see a gigantic academy. The doors themselves were already as big as a building. As they entered, Sij drove towards the parking lot. They passed by a few gardens and some faculty buildings on the way. It was bigger than his previous school. Ron was slightly surprised.

They parked the car and Sij led him down a path towards the dorms. As they walked, they met a few students who were walking towards their own destinations. There were very few students walking alone. Since it was the middle of the year, mostly everyone was in a group. Whether it be Ron or Sij, they were ignored throughout. And that was fine by them.

They reached a gigantic complex that was longer than taller and Sij introduced it as the dorms. They entered and a clerk came up to them. It was another middle-aged man. He had a big smile on his face as he saw Sij. The two of them hugged before greeting each other. They seemed to be old pals. Ron remained on the side, uncaring.

It took a moment before Sij introduced the man to Ron: "This guy is called Grey, Ron. He's the dorm head. Talk to him if you need anything or have any problems"

Then, he turned to Grey and told him: "That's Ron Morgensen, you should have received the documents. Can I leave him in your hands?"

Grey laughed as he clapped Sij's back: "Sure! That's my job anyways! Alright, go, go, you government dog! Ahahah"

Sij laughed along and they joked a bit more before he left.

Grey then turned towards Ron with a big smile and said: "So, you are Ron? Well, come along, kid, I will show you your new home!"

Ron followed the man. Throughout the walk, he kept on rambling about the school and the rules and such. Ron never answered but he did listen. The rules were mostly the same as the other school. There shouldn't be any problems.

They arrived in front of a door labelled '424' and Grey asked Ron to put his palm on the detector next to it. As he did, something clicked and the door opened. Grey entered first as he said: "We already took the liberty to configure the entrance to your palm prints since they were recorded. Anyways, welcome onboard"

Grey began to introduce the place. A bedroom, a living room, a bathroom and a kitchen. It was neither big nor small and what you could expect from a dorm. It had the required furniture and no more but no less. Ron found it fine. He didn't need anything grandiose. He was ok so long as he had a roof over his head. And this was free. A place that was free and still miles better than his accommodation as a miner way back.

Grey showed him that his closet was already filled with his stuff. Which wasn't really his stuff since everything he owned burnt away. Those were the clothes furnished by the government. They were bland shirts and pants. But they had different colors so that was already not bad. He would have probably had to go buy some himself if they had been completely identical. After all, he had learnt a lot about fashion thanks to Vanessa back then…

Grey then opened a cabinet into which were a pile of books. He told him that those were the usual books about rules, the schools and such.

Then, he explained Ron that the second semester would only begin next Monday, which was in four days and that he was due to take an exam tomorrow. It would test his basics and make sure he could go join the class they picked for him.

Ron couldn't help but ask: "What if my results are too bad?"

Grey didn't expect the question. He had read the kid's files. He was considered a good seedling who studied engineering and worked as a car engineering. He wasn't even an assistant but a project head. Such a youth would have no reasons to fail this kind of test. As such, he was slightly surprised by the inquiry.

He answered nonetheless: "Depends on the results. They might put you in a different major or, worst case, expel you. Who knows what they have in their brains? Anyways, it's nothing too hard, you're going to pass this easy, don't worry too much. Just take the day off to rest"

Ron nodded. He was already thinking of flunking the exams hard. If they couldn't teach him, they wouldn't make him a soldier, right? He grinned at the prospects thinking he found a loophole.

As Grey was leaving, he turned back once more and spoke: "Since you didn't have time to go buy food, you should go by the cafeteria for diner, it's on the first floor, you can't miss it"

Ron bowed and thanked Grey as he left. Then, he turned towards his new home and just went straight to lay down on the bed. Next, he turned on his wrist-com.
