"Hello?" Emma spoke harshly into the phone.
"Woah woah woah, Jensen. What's got your panties in a twist?"
The brunette huffed in annoyance and ran her fingers through her hair. "Sorry babe, you just kinda interrupted a moment I had with Olivia," she explained to her best friend.
The other girl let out a short gasp at the mention of the new girl's name. "You mean Planet Green Eyes? Gosh, they're so captivating," she laughed.
Emma nodded her head in agreement, then realised the girl on the other end couldn't see her.
"Yeah...they really are," she breathed out.
Ava cleared her throat and returned to the topic at hand when Emma didn't continue.
"So, what happened between you and Jauregui?" she asked.
Emma swore she could hear the smirk in Ava's voice.
She coughed in embarrassment. "N- Nothing," she lied.
Ava rolled her eyes at her best friend's reply. "That's bullshit, Cass. We both know it. You literally just snapped at me for interrupting a moment! What really happened?"
Emma sighed. She could never lie to her best friend.
"We were working on our projects...I don't know what fuckery this is, but we were paired for three different projects!" she ran a hand through her luscious locks.
"Go on Chancho," Ava urged.
"We wanted to get them done before the next week, so we'd have more time to actually take a break from studying and...I don't know! Live a little? That's the whole reason why she came over today anyway," the younger brunette shrugged like it was nothing.
"Wait. Hold up," Ava squealed. "You're telling me Planet Green Eyes is at your house, right at this very moment?"
"More specifically, my room..."
More squeals.
"Well, where else would she be? I did say we wanted to get out projects done, right?" Emma laughed at her best friend's reaction.
"Alright, alright. I'll let you two have your moment then," the tall blonde said, probably smirking on the other end.
Emma did want to get back to Olivia, who was probably bored out of her mind back in her room, waiting for her.
However, her best friend called her for a reason, and she wasn't going to deprive herself of that opportunity to find out what it was.
"Nah, I think Olivia can hold off for a little while longer. You obviously called me for a reason, care to share?" Emma nonchalantly bit her lip and waited for the other girl to reply.
•••
On the other side of the bedroom door, Olivia waited patiently for Emma to be done with the phone call that had interrupted their moment just minutes ago.
The green-eyed girl sighed to herself. She knew she couldn't have these feelings for the younger brunette.
Why?
Because the other girl was the most popular girl at school whereas she, Olivia Jauregui, was a nobody.
That and Emma had all the guys (and girls) head over heels for her, so why would the cheerleader even pick a loser like her?
Olivia stood up from her previous position on Emma's bed — which was very comfortable, by the way — and pressed her ear against the door, trying to see if she could hear anything from their conversation on the other side of the wooden frame.
Sure, she probably shouldn't be eavesdropping, but...
"Sorry babe, you just kinda interrupted a moment I had with Olivia,"
Olivia raised an eyebrow in confusion. Was Emma annoyed that their little moment got interrupted?
No, it couldn't be; the younger girl probably didn't even like her.
The raven-haired girl contemplated between a few possible situations.
One, Emma did like her and she was indeed, annoyed that Ava had interrupted their near kiss.
Two, Emma didn't like her, but was using her as a way to experiment with other people.
Three, Emma didn't like her and was only talking to her either because she had to, or was only taking pity on her because she was in fact, still the new kid.
Olivia sighed and ran her fingers through her hair. What was she gonna do? She could either let herself fall and hope that Emma would catch her, or not fall at all.
The sad truth was, Olivia Jauregui was already falling for the girl she only knew as Karla, not the Emma Jensen everyone worshipped at school.
•••
"Wait, so you like Seth?" Emma questioned Ava again, feeling confused as ever.
"Yes, yes I do," Ava sighed.
"When did this even happen?" Emma asked, not really getting how her best friend was actually falling for a guy she had barely spent any time with.
"Some time last month, actually. We started hanging out after we were assigned as partners for a History project," the younger girl sighed once more.
Now Emma was even more confused. Not because she didn't understand why Ava was falling for this guy, because she totally understood why.
From what she'd heard, Seth was actually a really great guy. What she didn't get was why Ava sighed every time she talked about him.
"It's pretty ironic, isn't it?" she thought out loud.
"What is?" Ava asked on the other end of the line.
"You're sighing every time you talk about him. Why so?"
Once again, Ava sighed.
"He's dating Rebecca Dawson, the girl from our Math class," she explained.
"Our class? I don't have Math with you, babe," Emma laughed.
"Oh, sorry, I meant Olivia. We have Math together,"
Emma nodded, recalling that Olivia had indeed told her about that earlier. "Right. With Mani and Ally too, right?"
"Yep," Ava replied, popping the 'p'.
"Anyway..." Emma attempted to bring them back to the topic at hand without hurting Ava.
"Mmm?" Ava unconsciously replied.
"Seth's dating...Rebecca?"
"Mhmm," Ava sighed, not exactly in the mood to reply anymore.
"You wanna talk about it?" Emma asked worriedly.
"Nah, I'm good. I think I'm gonna go sleep, I'm pretty bummed out from today's soccer practice. Go get your girl, will you?" Ava said.
"Alright babe, rest well today," the brunette replied, completely disregarding the second part of her best friend's statement. "We're not done talking about this. Text me later,"
"Cass, I said go get your girl!" Ava exclaimed.
•••
"Cass, I said go get your girl!" Olivia heard Ava exclaim. That girl was really loud.
Get her girl? What were they talking about? Why did she hear Ava call Karla 'Cass'?
For a moment, Olivia got her hopes up, thinking the two of them were talking about her. But she reminded herself not to hope too much.
The outcomes weren't always good.
Although, putting the pieces of the puzzle together, the brunette seemed to like girls. It was something she had probably told her best friend, which was what they could've been talking about.
Right?
