Chapter 5: Sick

URGENT

Damon greets his sister but doesn't apologize for his earlier behaviour. It was already around ten in the evening and Samantha was tired so there wasn't much for an exchange of words between the two. The twins had gone to sleep right away and in what seemed like a snap of a finger, it was already the morn of Tuesday. Their second day on Dawn Island.

Victoria wakes and preps herself for a morning stroll outside the mansion in hopes of clearing her mind for a while from the vivid memories of tragedy that had fallen upon the imposter of Emily Von Geisler, whose real name they never discovered.

She thought taking a stroll along the grassy outskirts of the mansion around the island shouldn't have been too much of a danger because no murderer in their right mind would ever think of risking getting caught in the middle of a grassy field in front of the mansion in broad daylight. That is, of course, if the murderer was in his right mind, for is there really someone who is in their right mind that would end up with murder drenched in their hands?

Victoria couldn't say any better for herself though. She had drowned a child in an attempt once, and this thought made Victoria's hair stand on edge as she decided to opt out and head back for the mansion's main entrance instead. Afterall, at least she had already gotten her fair share of fresh air for ten minutes.

Victoria thinks about the time and remembers that breakfast should be served just about now, but as she heads for the dining room, walking along the halls that seemed to give off a rather eerie vibe, she feels herself getting anxious. It must just be her instinct, but she feels someone is nearby. Walking, watching, following her every step.

But the hall was far too quiet, yet her fears and senses insisted that someone indeed was following her. Without looking back, she tries to tread a little faster towards the dining area in hopes to arrive and find someone, anyone, that could help her. But the feeling of someone's unceasing presence never disappeared, nor did it hinder.

The halls only seemed like they were as long as forever and it felt like it was taking Victoria in circles. She was practically running at this point but alas, she trips on a fold from the velvet hallway carpet. Her fears getting to her head and her vision starting to blur with tears as she finally looks up and sees a figure of a man approaching her with steady speed.

She cries and yells for the killer to back away but he doesn't falter from her screams. He only closes in on her step by step, with no one else to save her as he finally reaches her spot and crouches down to Victoria's level. She's stuck frozen in place as a loud scream was the only thing that was able to escape her mouth in that split moment that seemed to have gone in slow motion in the eyes of the crying lady.

Damon had slept in through the alarm clock so Samantha tries to wake him up instead, but as she places her hand on his arm, she notices that Damon's temperature had gone up.

"Are you sick? You can't go sick on me now!" Samantha tries to get her words across to a sleepy Damon but her efforts seemed to be quite futile. Samantha sighs and  decides to let him sleep some more hoping that a bit of rest could make him feel at least a little better later, it was after all, a bit too early in the morning.

After freshening herself up a little, Samantha heads towards the kitchen to start prepping up breakfast for the two remaining guests. She cooks all the dishes by herself so she finds herself running a little late to serve breakfast.

It was almost ten minutes past 7 am (breakfast time) and there were still no signs of her twin, Damon. She thinks it would be a waste of time to call him now to help with the cooking so Samantha decides to call him after prepping all the dishes instead. Soon, as Samantha finally finishes cooking up all the dishes, she plates them and places them neatly on the metal food cart that they always use to bring in the guests' meals.

After doing so, she rushes back to their quarters, leaving the cart behind, in hopes that she'd stumble upon her twin along the way so they could both run back to the kitchen and Damon could help Samantha push the metal cart for breakfast as they were now about to be fifteen minutes late. But to her dismay, she doesn't bump into Damon along the hallway and instead see him still glued upon his bed.

She had been cooking for about an hour and a half but Damon's still asleep. She sighs and tries to wake him up again but he doesn't respond. He just lies there lifelessly in bed, skin pale, and silence blankets the entire room. Thoughts flood in Samantha's mind as she eyes Damon's fragile body lying in bed, fear and doubt taking control of her.

As the worst possibility flashes across Samantha's mind, or at least that's what her face had told, she freezes. "H-hey, Damon. Get up, yeah? W-why aren't you r-responding to me?" Samantha says as she shakily raises her hand and reaches for Damon's cheeks. Cold. He was very cold. - Samantha tried to believe.

Her eyes widened at the phantom cold sensation against her warm fingertips. She couldn't suppose this, no way. "How did this..." Samantha whispered to herself.

"Does this mean Damon's d-dead? No! It can't be. No way!" Samantha didn't want to accept this. She had to do something. She kept telling herself that it wasn't real. "I need..." That Damon was probably just acting.

However, nothing happened. Damon was still lying lifelessly in bed, tucked in so peacefully, a gentle smile across his lips. "I need the doctor!" Samantha shouted to no one in particular as she got up, running as fast as she could past the door and towards the dining hall in hopes she could find Dr. Roscoe and his medical assistance.

Panting and almost tripping a few times as Samantha runs to the dining room, adrenaline taking over, she finally arrives in front of the elegant mahogany doors that keep the dining area away. As she reaches out for one of the door's cold knobs, she pushes the door open and sees the place empty.

It's empty. There's no one here. Blood drains from Samantha's face as dread begins to get the best of her. She feels weak as she loses hope acting like she had just lost all of her will to live, "Where could the doctor be at this time?" she says herself, feeling drained and dizzy. Samantha wanted to sit down and just collapse because what can she do? - she constantly thought as she apprehended whilst her energy drained slowly from her distraught.

Samantha was ready to fall and have a breakdown, until she hears a loud scream that sounded like Victoria's voice echoing through the halls. The sound wasn't too loud, but it wasn't too faint either. Victoria must not be too far away.

The scream snaps Samantha out of her pitiful trance right before she could start her breakdown. She feels alarmed and before she could even grasp the situation, her body starts to act on its own. Before Samantha could even think of a reason why, she was already running towards Victoria's scream.
