Chapter 43

Zaraphine's POV

It's been a few days since anyone has come down to the cells. It's been pretty peaceful, I can catch up on sleep. Anytime I get visitors they hit and kick me to keep me awake. I can no longer feel the presence of my wolf. Ever since Lakota told me I would be mated to him, I felt her slowly fading away. I just hope she is at peace. The day I met my wolf I have done nothing but cause her grief and heartache, so it makes me kind of happy knowing she is no longer with me. I never wanted to put her through so much.

When I hear thundering footsteps from the stairway I quickly lift myself on the bed to a sitting position. Staring straight ahead, clearing my head to leave no sign of emotion on my face, I wait for the impact. "Zaraphine!! You have a visitor! If you do not act right, then you will be punished. Let's go, I have to clean you up. You look like garbage." Esther's screeches. I roll my eyes but stand anyway. I have had a few visitors since being here, and none of them are pleasant. Esther sells me to lonely male wolves for a few hours whenever she feels like I am not being punished enough.

I have had a few men who just wanted to talk about how they were feeling about losing a mate, a child, or being kicked out of a pack. I just sit back and listen to their sob stories, never giving my input. This seems to be one of the same instances. I quietly follow behind her towards Lakota's room. "Quick shower. Make yourself presentable. You know how it works." She says as she pushes me into the bathroom. I nod my head and begin to take my torn clothes off. Climbing into the shower I turn the water on and quickly wash my hair and body before climbing back out. Esther shoves a towel at me, silently telling me to dry off.

After I am completely dry I wrap my hair in the towel and leave the bathroom. "Here put these on. " Esther says as she hands a pile of clothes to me. I look at her silently questioning her but she answers with a growl. I nodded and put the clothes on keeping my head low. "Let's go. She will not wait forever." Esther said as she grabbed my arm roughly, pulling me out of the room and down the hall towards Lakota's office. 'Something isn't right.' I said to myself. Esther knocked once on the door before pushing it open. A gasp came from Esther's lips when she entered causing me to peek around her.

I slowly walked into the room after Esther, never taking my eyes off of Lakota's lifeless body lying next to his desk. "What is going on Eos? What did you do to him? Guards! Guards! The Alpha is hurt! Send help!" She started screaming into the air. 'Eos. I know that name. How do I know that name? Who is this woman?' I thought to myself. "I am your aunt my dear little goddess. I have come to take you home." She said with a small smile on her face. "Home?" I questioned. "This is her home! She was abandoned! Her mother did not care to look after her own child so she left her with strangers! I took care of her! After my mate died, where was the mother of this child? She never came to visit her. Never came to see how she was coping with losing the only father she has ever known." Esther growled loudly.
