Chapter 29

Athena looked up, a scared expression masking her eyes as she watched the word painted on the wall, heard their voices echo in her mind. The image of her pounding on her wall merely moments ago, began to form in her mind, almost as if she watching herself. Watching her eyes glaze as her mind lost itself in a memory that she knew will happen and yet had already happened. Her paradoxical fold of time.

She watched as she drew blood from the side of her palm. She heard the blood rushing faster through her veins as a bitter taste coated her tongue. Something evil was taking over her body. Between the loud pounding and the voices of her memory, she heard another soft whisper.

She heard that voice.

The voice of the chateau.

The crumpled creature's desperate voice laced between all the sounds. So soft that one could easily miss it. She heard it begging in her ear.

"Taljack... Ouri…Taljack Ouri… Taljack…."

Come to me.

"Salma Perctio Ouri … Perctio Ouri"

Please save me … save me.

"Kimis Ouri tastio sijack girmins"

Let me taste you once more.

"Salma… Salma ….Salma …"

Please … please… please.

The creature began to take form of a shadow. She felt the creatures fangs scrape against her neck. Felt its fingers touch her skin. Fear began to form in her heart as it leapt faster still.

She felt the ground shake under her as the creature's eyes began to form. Bile began to rise in her throat and the bitter taste got stronger. With each feature, she got more and more scared and the ground became more and more unstable.

Until she felt him again. She felt warm and safe as musk surrounded her.

"Nagis?"

Athena whispered.

Almost seeing his smile in front of her closed eyes.

"Sijack."

He whispered against her ear.

The image of the creature began to fade slowly.

One feature at a time.

Until it was completely gone and only the smell of musk remained.

The ground stopped shaking.

As she felt, his arms wrap around her waist, pulling her body close to him.

She felt his thighs brush against her side, felt his chest rise and fall against her head. His warmth and love surround her.

"There's nothing to be scared my love."

"Do you love me?"

"I have loved you before I even understood love."

"Is it because I was created to save you?"

"It's because I have loved the ghost of you. Why are all our conversations to bizarre?"

"I don't know. Can I open my eyes?"

"You know you can't"

"Why Christian?"

"Because you are not ready."

"Will I ever be ready according to you?"

"I hope so."

"Please don't leave just yet. Stay the night with me. Hold me all night long. I am scared she will come back."

"Where would I be if not here?"

"Quoting me now …" Athena whispered with a smile.

Christian felt her breath get more even as her head rested against his chest. Just as he thought she fell asleep she asked, "Will you read that book to me?"

"I … sure."
