Chapter 25

"Victor, do you know of a place called La Perla? Or of a Gabriel Moreno? Or even a Lukas Moreno?"

"Well, yes… its funny that you know about it at all, considering I just bought La Perla, the house is back to the people it belongs to. It was originally bought by your great grandfather, Gabriel Moreno and rebuilt and renamed as a summer house to your great grandmother, Pearl. Lukas, your grandfather described it so frequently in his journal. He loved to go there, that's where he spent hours with your grandmother.

It was also the house in which Pearl died. They say something was wrong with the house, that ever since Pearl entered the house, she was doomed. With each passing summer that she spent there a melancholic type of madness began to take over her. It seemed the walls of the house spoke to her, taunted her, drove her into a fearful insanity. So much that towards the end, she could not so much as enter that house, despite having loved it so much. The poor soul took her life in the end, saying how the spirit in the walls was punishing her for disobeying their orders by selling the house.

Back then people were superstitious, and did not recognize it for what it was."

"And what was it?"

"Madness. She was mentally ill. Suffering from some kind of an ailment… anyways my father could not buy it afterwards and wished to revisit that place. So, as a gift this year on his birthday I bought him the La Perla. It is being restored to mimic the exact way it looked so many years when he visited it as a child."

"Pearl Monero… what did she look like?"

"From the pictures I saw in her journal, you are a spitting image of her. Were she alive no one would be able to tell you apart."

"Can I read that journal? Do you still have it?"

"As a matter of fact I do. They are placed as a separate collection in the library… I will ask Rose to place them in your room tonight, so you can read it."
