Chapter 4|The Performance

"Aren't you excited for this?" Evelyn asked feeling giddy.

"I am!" Anais chuckled. "Why are you getting super excited about this?"

"You have to be!"

"What do you mean?"

"Oh, you'll see. Come on! We'll be late!" Evelyn said and dragged Anais out of their dorm room.

"Hey, dude!"

"Hey!"

"You nervous?"

"Yeah. Super. It's not too late to back out is it?" Jesse blew a puff of warm air into his palms to keep it from getting cold.

"You got this!" Caleb, his friend, said and gave him an encouraging pat on his back.

"Yeah." He breathed in and wait for his group to be called. "I hope she says yes!" He said, rubbing his palms together.

"Hey, it is time." Caleb tapped him.

"Alright Jesse, you've got this! It's show time!" Jesse said, giving himself a little pep talk.

As the MC announced the next performance, the audience applauded and among them was Anais and her friend Evelyn. The applause died down as the instruments started playing.

"I want to say first, that this song is for someone special." Jesse announced. "I hope she likes it." The instruments then started playing.

"Well, you done done me, and you bet I felt it. I tried to be chill, but you're so hot that I melted. I fell right through the cracks, Now I'm trying to get back."

Anais recognize the song immediately, it was her favorite song. She was sure that he was looking at her often throughout his whole performance and she was smiling back at him.

"I'm Yours~" He sang as he ended it. The performers bowed as the audience broke into applause but it died down as Jesse walked nearer to the edge of the stage and locked eyes with Anais. "Anais," he started and the spotlight searched for her in the audience then fixed on her, "would you like to go out with me?" Evelyn squealed at the sweet gesture and nudged at her friend.

Anais sat frozen in her spot. Jesse was starting to get worried with the silence. Just when he thought that she was going to reject him, the mic finally got to her and she stood up. Anais broke into a huge smile and and said the words that Jesse was dreading for the whole day.

"Yes."

Then the audience went wild.

"You remember that day? You said yes to me. I remembered how nervous I was before the performance. To tell you the truth, I almost backed out at the last second." He said chuckling at himself.
