Holly Vendetta Arc Chapter 10

Just like that, they had arrived on day three. Though they had a mission planned, one that would catastrophically shake the fate of all life on this planet. The two companions were squabbling the morning sun away like an old married couple.

"For the last time, can't you just forgive me?"

"Fool me once, shame on me! Fool me twice shame on you!"

"I already told you! I was just restless, it wasn't like I was far away or anything. I was gonna come back any moment."

"Could you not have just woken me up and taken me with you? Hello?!"

"Well, That was a possibility. But, I'm sure you would have been so overprotective that I wouldn't get any action."

"Sure! Sure! Then explain to me why you chained my legs and ran off when I caught up to you."

Kairo awkwardly shrugged saying "I panicked?"

Holly continued, gritting her teeth "Twice..."

"Could you be a bit more specific? Twice what? Are you referring to the ditching you part … or the chaining your legs part?"

Furious, Holly stared holes into Kairo till one of her eyes started to twitch.

"Okay! I am sorry! Anyways, look on the bright side. The day is finally here. You no longer need to deal with my crap." Kairo said as he pleaded for forgiveness

"Urgh… You're right. These three days have felt longer and more stressful than my two years in that dreadful tower of nightmares. Let's just go."

Kairo feared for a moment that his statement would barely hold up. Thankfully, Holly bought it as she knew better than anyone how important today was. The day that she could clear her conquest and her conscience.

Standing at the entrance of the tower, the two casually glanced at each other and nodded. It was a simple yet clear signal that they both knew what would happen next. Kairo walked up towards the runic tower doors, placing his hand on them and turned his head back to Holly.

With a serious expression on his face, Kairo asked "So, what do I do now?"

Holly, who almost lost her balance after hearing Kairo's words, said "Just tell them what floor you would like to go to."

"Oh. Right. Hundredth floor, please." Kairo replied as he turned back and closed his eyes waiting for the world's voice to take action

Given a few moments of silence, Kairo was still standing with his back facing Holly.

"Nothing's happening."

Pushing Kairo aside, Holly placed one hand on the door and repeated "Hundredth floor, please."

Suddenly, a blue light began to trace a circle around Holly. In a moment of panic, Holly quickly yelled for Kairo to grab her hand.

After the circle was completed, the two were beamed to the entrance of the rewards room where the colossal sized doors stood as if they were being abducted by aliens.

"That's odd. Why would I be teleported out here instead of inside the room? Well, whatever." Holly brushed her concerns aside as she pushed open the doors

Striking up conversation, Kairo blurted "Why didn't it work when I said it?"

"It could be because you didn't actually clear the tower, like I did. Who knows why things work the way they do in this awful world?" Said Holly

The two foolhardy companions entered the room with the doors automatically shutting behind them. Organ music began to play, echoing around the room. It was at this moment that Holly was hit with an epiphany like a baseball to the head. Why Kairo could not teleport up here. Why was it that they were only able to be teleported outside the room. It was all coming together. She was right from the beginning, there was a hidden boss in the room to protect the sword. The only thing she was wrong about, was that it was Kairo. What if the reason it did not appear before was because Kairo was already in the room before she opened the doors. What if the world voice identified Kairo as the monster at the time. That would explain why there was no actual boss back then. However, the fact stood that at this moment, the boss was not registered as Kairo anymore but something else. Holly could sense the intensifying pressure that filled the room, like someone or something was here and it was watching them. Kairo was still unaware of the opposing danger they were in as he casually skipped his way towards the sword on the altar.

"La di da!" Kairo hummed as he casually strolled ahead
