"Hey Ambrose, send my greetings to your mom,"
"Yeah, I will... after you pay up,"
"Don't be so rude, boy. Of course, I'll pay you,"
Ambrose assists his mom in supplying their harvested crops to the market, and the little boy has received quite the recognition from his customers. He cannot be outplayed by anyone. In actuality, many have fallen victim to his foxy character.
He also has an outstanding memory and never forgets those who still owe him... A scary kid indeed.
"You know, if you keep up with this nasty character of yours, you'll end up losing your customers," says a middle-aged woman as she begrudgingly pays for Ambrose's services.
"I don't see that happening anytime aoon. After all, my mom's prices are very low," replies Ambrose.
"Tch!"
The middle-aged woman snorted, but could say nothing in defense. The kid is right after all, which explains why Blythe's business is going so well.
"Hey, just so you know, I also supply fresh meat for a reasonable price," Ambrose leans closer and whispers.
"Since when?"
"Does it matter?"
"Are you stealing them?"
"Are you kidding me?" Ambrose hated her words; "Do I look like a thief?"
"Just asking," she shrugged.
"I have also informed this to my mom's other customers, so you're going to have a few competitions. However, if you can pay me ahead of time, you'll be one the first to receive my first catch,"
"I don't trust you," the middle-aged woman said. This was after a few moments of consideration.
"Mrs. Deli, that sounds like an insult," Ambrose complained.
"I'm sorry, young one, but I'm just being honest,"
"How can you not trust me? I am honest," Ambrose said, still trying to see if he could get her to pay.
"Sigh* Can I trust you?"
"Ms. Deli, you know where I live, don't you?"
"Not exactly,"
"Wait, what! how come?" This realization took Ambrose by surprise; "Ok fine, just forget it then, I'll be taking my leave,"
"Wait!!" Ms. Deli called out, stopping Ambrose on his track.
"Here, have this. Make sure you bring me the best meat, do you understand?" says Deli as she gave Ambrose extra money.
"Of course, I will," Ambrose replied with a grin. "Because of your generosity, I will give you my number one meat," he said with great satisfaction.
"Now, we're talking," Mrs. Deli is pleased with Ambrose's words and this elevated her mood.
After completing his business with Ms. Deli, Ambrose had other customers to attend to. He also received a few gifts from them, as well as their pre-payments for meat. Ambrose is having a successful business. You can tell from how bright his facial expression are radiating.
"There he is,"
"Huh?"
Up ahead, just a few more steps to go, four young boys had been waiting in the same path for a long time now, until their target showed up.
"Do you mind?" Ambrose says.
"Acting tough, aren't ya?" one of the older kids said.
These are the same boys who were bullying a defenseless kid many weeks ago (You can check the conclusive part of Chapter two and Chapter three)
"Did you think we would forget you?" Said the older kid, as they all close the distance between themselves and Ambrose.
"No one is going to help you now,"
"It's been a long time. Why now?" Ambrose held back from laughing out loud.
"We've been taking our time to get back at you," they said.
'Now that I think about it, who would believe the absurd story of a 4-year-old kid kicking the ass of four older boys, all by himself?'
"So what's going to happen now?" Ambrose asked.
He is not intimidated by them, and they noticed this...
"We're going to make you regret ever crossing us,"
"Yeah, after we're done with you, your mom won't recognize you,"
"That's my line,"
Ambrose took the initiative as he sent a resounded blow to the leader of the group, crushing the nose.
"Aaaaaggghhh!!" The poor kid rolled on the ground in pain.
"F*ck!!"
Ambrose's unexpected action took the others by surprise, which made them angry.
One of the other kids went on an assault, but Ambrose deflected his attack and sent a gentle slap to the jaw, dislocating it with a single hit. Though gentle, that slap may be, it sent the unfortunate kid flipping over.
*Crack!*
Ambrose stepped on the toe of his third opponent, and as usual, he crushed it under his feet. The last one received an uppercut, powerful enough to flip him over.
In mere seconds, it has all ended with Ambrose as the victor.
"I should show mercy, next time," He said.
The condition he left these boys wasn't what he had expected.
"Oh well, it's too late for regret now,"
.
.
.
"Guess what?" says Danica.
"I don't want to,"
"Come on, just guess," Danica insisted.
"I'm terrible at guessing,"
"It doesn't matter, try it,"
"Um... you killed someone?" Ambrose shrugged.
"No, stupid, I just had a breakthrough," Danica said. She wasn't expecting such an absurd guess.
"A breakthrough?"
"Yeah, it took a long time, but I finally broke through and made it to the 'First Gate' as a Mage," Danica jumps in excitement.
"You are at the peak of Elementary Gate,"
"That's not possible!"
"Believe it or not, that's the truth," says Ambrose, who doesn't seem to care.
There are nine Gate Stages and for every Mage, breaking through every one of these Gates is a chance to achieve godly powers and become an existence to be reckoned with.
However, it takes months and mostly years to achieve a single breakthrough, and with every stage you cross, the harder and longer it will take the cross the next. So a great deal of patience and resilience is needed as a Mage if you want to grow stronger in the future.
"Come to think of it, how could you tell?" Danica asked, with her left brow raised up high.
"I don't know, it just happened," He said in reply, hoping that it would suffice.
"Really? That's it?"
"I mean... Yeah,"
"I don't believe you," she said.
"Whatever, believe whatever you want to,"
Young Ambrose left her alone. He couldn't care less.
Sitting cross-legged, Danica dived into her inner consciousness. There, she found out she really hadn't made it past the elementary Gate as a Mage. Ambrose was right.
. . .
"Well, look at the bright side. In a few months, you will make it to the First Gate," Ambrose tried to cheer her up.
"Besides, there isn't much difference between the peak Elementary Gate and the First Gate," Ambrose added.
"Really?"
"No, that's a lie, there is a sizeable difference between them both," Ambrose admits, "I'm sorry."
"Just trying to hurt my feelings, aren't you?"
"No...I would never do that to my big sis,"
