Ch. 2 Finding a job in Coupeville

Waking up in a not so nice hotel bed, I shower and go on my phone looking at the list of jobs. Sighing as none of the jobs seem interesting. I decided to walk around the place and spot a coffee shop. I go in and order a coffee, taking it with me as I begin to walk down the sidewalk and pass by a flower shop. I pause and look at the sign that says help is needed. I walk in and notice the male clerk and ask him if I can work here. He seemed surprised and told me that I can come in tomorrow and learn the basics. After saying goodbye, I walk out the door.

Going back to the hotel I watch the news and the death of my family is said along with police were trying to find me.

"The police are searching for the daughter of the family. There is evidence of multiple shooters when the event took place. We all wonder who took down this mafia family in cold blood. So, if yo-." I turn off the TV and lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling thinking about that day and then I slowly fall asleep.

In the morning I go get a cup of coffee again, waiting there for some hours. Leaving the shop, I headed for the flower shop. The bell rings as I enter, passing some people I wait by the counter till the he's done with his customer.

"Hey there. Sorry if you were waiting."

"Oh, it's fine." Smiling I follow him to the back and take the clothes that he hands me.

"When you're ready, you start." He leaves, so I can change. Coming out I walk to the counter, smiling as he looks at me.

"All you need to do is help the customers and restock." I nod and look at the clothes, if it were up to me there would be changes to this.

I started looking at all the flowers, seeing if any needed to be restocked. A customer comes in and slams his fist on the table. "Times up, give me your money." Wow, just when I start this job there's trouble. I slowly walk up behind him as my coworker hastily gets the money. "Are you sure you should handle it like this." I ask with a sweet smile. My coworker freezes and the guy turns around, "Why are you saying that, hun." I kick him in the shin, swiftly taking his gun out of his hand. "I would get out of here if I were you. Oh yeah, don't call me hun." I kick him in the stomach while pointing the gun at him. He takes off without saying anything. "I'll go throw this away." Walking past my stunned coworker who dropped the bag of money. Like I would throw this away, I smile to myself. Instead, I put the gun in my bag, hiding it. Walking back out I go to help some customers. When it's closing time, my coworker closes the store. He doesn't say anything to me until we are in the back.

"How did you do that?" He questions.

"Training." I replied.

Scratching his head, he asks, "Would you like to work here every day of the week?" And I replied yes.

I laugh and say, "This job is quite interesting." He replies with a yeah. After some silence I said goodbye, leaving for the hotel.

I take the gun out of my bag, inspecting it. It's a normal pistol and there's only four bullets left. I put it back in my bag for safe keeping. Laying down on my bed with my head hanging down on the end. I'm looking through my phone for an apartment and I can't seem to find a good one. Looking at the time, it's 10:37, I groan and slowly get out of bed to plug in my phone as well as turning off the lights jumping into bed.

This morning I decided to head to work straight away. I get to the shop and let myself in with the keys my coworker gave me. I entered and instantly smelled the flowers which only helped to keep me feeling sleepy. As I come back out in my work clothes and see my coworker, he smiles awkwardly.

"Hey, early bird, by the way I totally forgot to introduce myself yesterday."

"Yeah, me too. I'm Jena." I say putting my hand out. "Orlando." He says and shakes my hand.

He shows me some other stuff I need to do on the job. It's lunch time and he takes me out to eat, says it's where he normally goes. Sitting across from him I start looking at the menu. The waiter comes and I order water and Orlando orders a diet coke.

"Where do you live?" He asks, starting the conversation.

"Right now, I'm living in a hotel till I find an apartment." I answer honestly.

"I do know where you can find one." That catches my attention and I instantly ask him where.

He says it is really a great place, I'm glad to hear that. The waiter comes back with our drinks and then we both order our food. Thirty minutes later we head back, and he makes jokes on the way. The rest of the day goes by fast and soon I'm heading back to the hotel. My car sits outside in the parking lot and my mind drifts to the apartments. A rash decision by me I got in my car and headed directly to where he said the apartments were. Pulling up in front up of the apartments, I get out and get a good look at the building. Seems nice on the outside, now what about inside. I leaned against my car and call the number Orlando gave me.
