'How could this happen?' Ka'lor'ah asked herself. 'Where did I go wrong?'
She stood beneath a yew tree and watched a solemn ceremony take place in the distance. People, humans mostly, dressed in black gathered around an open grave and grimly watched as pallbearers carried in a coffin upon their shoulders. Their stony faces did little to hide the grief within the heart for when they saw the sealed coffin brought into the cemetery, many were unable to hold back their tears.
From her distant viewpoint, Ka'lor'ah could see the people that had gathered for the burial service. There was Reyna, Anya, Leon, a few high government officials, the Oncanican Captain who always hung around Olivia, and a few more whom she could not recognize.
Death was an alien concept for Ka'lor'ah.
