Chapter 2

Hailey tied her hair into a high ponytail and styled it into a tight braid, she put on her blue short skirt with the gold chain as belt and her tight white sleeveless top. She showered herself with perfume and put on her white heels before leaving her house.

She got into the Uber she had booked online and after giving the companies name, the driver turned on the engine, driving away from her home, heading for the company.

Hailey unlocked her phone and saw a text from her sister Sierra, she opened their conversation and read the extremely long message her sister had sent.

'Hey Hailey! It's your sister Sierra, I just wanted to see how you were doing. We haven't talked much lately, everyone here is asking for you Hail. Mom is being extremely sad about it, you should really give her a call, plus, a visit from you would be very nice, Nick is looking for you, your nephew is starting school this year and it would be nice if he had you here for a little help on mathematics. I know it is hard for you to be here after what happened but Hail, Mom has regretted telling you such things, please as soon as you read this call me, I love you Sis'

Hailey turned off her screen and looked outside to see they had stopped moving. She turned to the driver and politely asked him why they had stopped.

'There has been an accident a few miles away from here ma'am, the road is closed for the next three hours or so, we will need to wait'

Hailey cursed into her head and for once again unlocked her phone. She typed the company's number and she called, waiting for someone to pick up.

'Diaz Corporations, how can I help you?'

Jessica, the polite secretary Hailey met the first time she went to the company picked up the phone and was now speaking with Hailey that was trapped into the Uber.

'Hello Jessica, It's Hailey Smith, from the economics department, I woulc like to inform I will probably arrive a few hours later at work because the road is closed from an accident'

Jessica exhaled from the other side of the phone, making Hailey even more stressed as she already was for being late on her first day at her new job.

'Try to be here as soon as possible Hailey, the Boss has asked for you to be in his office the moment you arrive here, he does not seem angry but you should get here fast, he is really impatient'

Hailey thanked Jessica and hang up the phone, she paid the driver and got out of the taxi, sure she would have to walk her way to work while wearing heels.

She pulled her black sunglasses out of her pocket and put them on, making sure she would be able to look around her without anyone noticing who she was looking at.

The sun was making her sweaty and the weather was so hot that she wished she was at home with her air-conditioner right now, sleeping with her dog in her arms.

But there she was, in the middle of a closed road, full of angry people that were probably driving to their jobs too, yelling and trying to open the road.

Hailey passed by the place the accident had taken place and walked to the next road, trying now to find a new taxi to take her to her work place before she got fired.

A taxi stopped in front of her and the driver lowered the window, making it easier to talk to Hailey and ask her where she was going.

'Diaz Corporations and fast! I am an hour late'

The driver nodded and unlocked the doors, letting Hailey in, she got inside, closed the window next to her and got her phone to take a look at the time.

9:05

'How long will it take to reach the Company?'

'Half an hour ma'am'

The driver speeded and Hailey exhaled happily. She would only be two hours late, it is not a big deal.

They reached the Company and Hailey ran inside, jumped into the elevator and tapped the number 6. 6th floor, where the office she was given was.

She greeted Jessica and walked towards the boss's office, taking a deep breathe, she knocked on the door and opened it slowly.

'Come in Ms. Smith, I have been waiting for you'

The boss said in a stable and at the same time calm voice, which made Hailey calm down, knowing her boss and enemy was not mad at her for being late and that her plan was still working.

'Boss, Good morning, I am sorry, I got into traffic and I had to walk all the way here, I heard you have been asking for me so I came straight here.'

Hailey's apology was cut short by the boss that was now standing right in front of her. He was looking at her from his spot with his eyes locked on her's.

'Jessica told me you do not have a car, am I right?'

Hailey gulped and nodded, not saying a word, she didn't want to interrupt his small and calm speech, he would probably be angry if she did.

'Since you are my economics manager this is unacceptable. Because of this, I decided to give you a car to use in order to move from your house to everywhere you need'

The boss had now a small smirk that was barely showing, Hailey was frozen on her spot, not saying anything or moving at all. She was playing those words in her mind again and again.

'So? What do you say Ms. Smith? Will you accept my little present?'

Hailey exhaled and took a few minutes to herself, this was perfect, and she had him under her control.

'I cannot accept this Mr. Diaz. It's too big'

Boss's eyes filled with curiosity as he placed his hand on Hailey's, handing her over the keys of her brand new car.

'Just call me Ricardo'

His heavy Italian accent set Hailey's body on fire, her eyes opened wide and she gasped silently. Ricardo seemed to have notice, as he took his hand away from Hailey's.

'Now you will never be late again…'

Hailey nodded and left the office, walking down the hall and entering her office, to start her belated work before someone notices she didn't care about it.

She needed to keep her personal life and goals away from that building and everyone that entered it, she needed to be away from everyone and she knew how to do it.

The door opened and a guy walked into her office in rush, throwing himself on the sofa in front of the closed window, leaving the door wide open and Hailey annoyed.

'A coffee quickly'

He ordered and Hailey rolled her eyes in annoyance and walked closer, standing in front of him.

They guy sat better on the sofa and turned to look at his phone that was vibrating like crazy from the calls and messages he had. Closing them all without even reading a single one or answer any of the calls.

'Do I know you?'

Hailey's annoyance could be sensed by just listening to her voice, whenever she was angry she use to low her voice's volume and cross her hands under her chest.

'You don't love, but if you don't bring me a coffee anytime soon you will learn my bad side first, and trust me, you wouldn't like it'

Hailey bit her low lip and turned away, taking a deep breathe to calm herself down. She walked behind her desk and pressed a button on her desk, that was connected with some kind of phone.

'Yes Ms. Smith?"

A kind girl answered the phone and waited for Hailey to tell her what she needed from her.

'Lydia please inform Mr. Diaz his meeting is here, he accidently came to my office, thinking I am the secretary, I will lead him to the office. Thank you'

Hailey smirked and the annoying guy rolled his eyes, standing up from the sofa he had previously used as a bed for him.

'Last door in the hall, Mr. Diaz is waiting for you'

She smiled and pointed the door of her office, forcing the rude man to leave and close the door behind him, leaving her giggling all alone on her desk.

Hailey exhaled happily and then turned back to her work, trying to finish the sooner she could since she had promised to take her dog on a huge walk around the city and Hailey never lied to her dog, it was her only company in the darkest of days, the only light she had and the only one she could trust.

He was her best friend, her pet, her child and her beloved guardian, if anything ever happened to him, Hailey would most probably end up committing suicide or having mental problems as much as depression from the loneliness.
