Chapter 36

Yoongi stopped at the University, the students were already moving around the grounds.

He got out of the car, he hoped he would be able to speak to Unmei before they start.

He walked and heard tires screeching, he turned his gaze left. Jin and Hoseok were coming in fast, Yoongi decided to disappear quickly.

Yoongi reached the entrance of the University. He looked around but there was no one in sight, 'If I was Unmei, where would I be?'

His attention snapped to the board that pointed to the music hall, "Bingo."

He walked in the direction of the music hall, his ears picked up on a low melody that was played on a piano.

He walked faster to the room and pressed his ear against it. The melody was sad and he felt her emotion in each note.

He placed his hand on the handle and pushed the door open quietly. He knew that she didn't like to be distributed when she was working.

His gaze fell on her, she was swaying with the notes that she was playing with her eyes closed. He closed the door as silently as he could.

He walked forward, and the melody that she was playing was one he recognised; it was their song but she changed the notes.

He noticed that there was a space open next to her and he was filled with nostalgia.

He tiptoed when he was in her earshot and sat next to her with his hands touching the keys, the song was nearing his part.

When he started playing, Unmei's eyes opened and she turned he gaze left with a shock expression on her face.

Her fingers stopped playing, "Yoongi..."

He smiled at her, "Unmei..." His fingers stopped.

"I thought you have forgotten-"

He turned so that he could face her properly. "How could I ever forget."

Unmei averted her gaze, "You left..."

Those words cut him like a knife, "I know that nothing I would say would make that right."

She turned her back on him, "You left without saying a word... You-"

Yoongi bit his lip and stood up from the chair, he moved so that he could kneel before her. "I thought it would have been better-"

"Better? Better for who? I thought we were friends, Yoongi and you just-"

His hand moved on its own to cup her chin and he forced her eyes to meet his. "I thought that it would be better if I disappeared without telling you. I didn't want to pull you further in my messed up family life."

Unmei tried to shake his hand off but he didn't let go, "I know you have told me that you were from a Yakuza family... But I-" She closed her eyes, "I haven't believed you and after you left, I came to realise you spoke the truth."

Yoongi blinked, she had thought that he was joking back then? It was understandable because only the Yakuza knew about their own business.

"Unmei- I have regretted the day I have left and not say goodbye to you."

It was her turn to blink, "You- you did? I thought you forgot."

His hand uncupped her chin and he trailed his fingers across her cheek. "Unmei," his voice was a whisper, "You are hard to forget."

Her gaze didn't leave him, she was hard to forget? They have been 10 years old then, and usually, when one was out of sight it went out of mind.

But even she couldn't forget him, the angry little boy who fought for the injustice that went around. He stood up against bullies and saved girls who were teased.

His soul had drawn her closer to him and they bonded over their love for the piano and music. He was good at the piano and she had encouraged him to hold on to that dream.

She bit her lip, "Why are you here?"

Yoongi removed his hand from her cheek, "I have come to ask you something."

She snorted, "I have a few things to ask you too."

Yoongi knew it would have come to that, she would want to know why he was pretending to be something he was not.

"Do you want to ask first?"

Unmei glared at him, he didn't flinch."What do you take me for? You came here to ask so ask."

He had walked straight into that one, it might be the wrong to have said he came here to ask something. But he had to get it out of the way.

"About what happened yesterday-"

Unmei stiffened, why did he want to know about that? "What about yesterday?"

Yoongi licked his lips, this was going to be hard. "Did you break Yuki's leg?"

Unmei abruptly stood up, "What!? Do you think I am caple of doing that?"

Yoongi got to his feet, "I am not accusing you-"

"It sounds like you are accusing me, Yoongi! You should know me better than anyone and you dare to ask me if I would break someone's leg?"

"Unmei... I am just asking because there was nothing to suggest that-"

Her eyes flared with anger, "Just because there is nothing suggest you immediately thought that it was me?"

She hated to lie to him but her family's safety hung in the balance and if she just whispered a word that- she couldn't think about that now.

She had to get him on her side by any means necessary even if it meant lying.

Yoongi bit his lip, but there was a witness... Maybe Kim Namjoon was lying to protect Yumei but why would Yumei be adamant that her leg was broken.

"Unmei, there was-"

Tears were running down her face now, "Haven't you think that they might be lying? What is this girl too you anyway?"

Yoongi's heart broke, he reached out to her but she evaded his touch, "I haven't lied to you Yoongi. She tripped and I got to you as fast as I could."

Unmei tried her best to sound sincere, she willed Yoongi to believe her. If she could find a word that her family was okay, she would tell him everything.

She will tell him, what his brother made her do and that included to keep him away from this girl.

Yoongi parted his lips, "That girl is called Yuki and she is a friend."

Unmei wiped at her tears, "She doesn't look like a friend-"

Was that jealousy that he detected in her tone, "She is my friend Unmei and she got hurt and because you know me well- I will do anything to protect her."

Unmei stared at him, yes, she did know him well. He got angry because he is overprotective, but why didn't he do the same for her?

"I know."

"So help me understand Unmei- what had happened."

She didn't want to continue this conversation anymore even though she wanted to know why he was Kiryu Shoma but the way she felt know; she didn't care.

"I told you what happened. She tripped and broke her leg. End of story."

She tried to walk past him but he grabbed her arm and gently swung her back towards him, "I know when you are lying to me."

She tried to free herself from his grip, "Let go of me, Yoongi!"

"I am not going to let you go until you tell me the truth."

"I am telling the truth! I didn't break the girl's leg!" Her voice raised in anger and she wiggled her wrist again but he held on.

Yoongi closed the distance between their Dave's so that they were inches apart. "Say that again while looking me in the eye."

She stopped wiggling, his face was close to close but his eyes were soft. "I did not break her leg."

She tried to keep her eyes from moving and he grinned, "One more time."

She was lying to him and he knew it, but it was still her word against Yumei's and Kim Namjoon could have heard the story and only said that he had been a witness to cover for Yumei.

He was having to much fun to see Unmei sweat a little. They haven't done this in years and he missed this so much.

Her cheeks flushed and he got lost in her blue-grey eyes. "I-DID-NOT-BREAK-HER-LEG." She mouthed the words slowly to him and a smile formed at his lips.

"Them come with me to the grounds and show me what happened."

Unmei broke free from his grip and took a step back, "Why should I prove my innocence to you?"

"Unmei, please- I have to find out what had happened."

"What would you do if you knew the truth?"

"I will make Yuki apologize for blaming you."

Unmei blinked, she had forgotten that the girl would speak about what happened to she would just have to be the best actress that she could be.

"Fine, I will go with you." She had to inform Jin of his movement, and now the wedge between him and this Yuki will grow wider.

"This would be like old times."

She turned her back to him, "We are not there yet Yoongi. I still haven't forgiven you."

She walked to the door and left Yoongi standing there. His head hung low, what did he think? She would have welcomed him back with open arms?

There was still so much that they had to talk about, she didn't even ask about his undercover name but was that his hope?

That they would talk again? He slowly walked to the door, why didn't she say Yuki? She kept calling her girl... That was strange to him, something was terribly amiss here.

He opened the door and left the piano room, more students were walking around now. He should get going to find out what their new initiation day would be.

He should track down Kim Namjoon, to tell him Yumei was fine. 'Ugh! So many things are going through my head!'

Yumei's eyes slowly opened, she blinked up at the ceiling. "Yoon-"

Jimin smiled, of course, she would say his name. "No, he has left for University."

Yumei sat upright, "Jimmi, are we still-"

He nodded at her, "Yes, love. We are still here but I have a surprise for you."

Yumei's lips formed a smile and her eyes lit up. The unicorn slipped from her grip with the jacket. "A surprise?"

Jimin had asked the nurse for a plate, it took him ten minutes to wake her up, he held the plate out to her, "These are pancakes from Namjoon."

Yumei's eyes widened, "Joonie was here?"

Joonie? She was already calling him nicknames? "Yes, he sends his apologies that he couldn't have stayed and hoped you got better soon."

Yumei took the plate from Jimin, 'Joonie kept his promise, he came to see me, but why didn't they wake her up?'

Jimin sat down in the chair, "Eat up.'

Yumei bit her lip, " Jimmi, why didn't you wake me up when he was here?"

Jimin lifted an eyebrow, "You needed rest, love. Yoongi was here too."

Yumei stared at the plate of food, she always needed rest and no one would bother her... Why couldn't they treat her like a normal young adult?

Jimin mentally slapped himself, 'Sometimes you just say the wrong things.' He reached his hand out to touch her shoulder. "Mei-mei, Yoongi can't wait to see you when you are home. So eat something so you have your strength."
