I walked back to my room to see her lifeless body with the mask that was helping her breath over her nose. What I saw in her journal and Levi’s words hit me so hard. I wanted to get close to her but I was scared she would wake up and see me. 
I didn’t deserve to be close to her after all I’ve done yet I couldn’t stay away from her. 
I went to the bed and feel on my knees, the tears in my eyes had made my vision blur so I blinked to let them flow freely. 
“I’m sorry Elisa,” I mumbled, my eyes on her burnt hand….the same hand I burnt. Looking at it brought all the memories back and I fucking hated myself. I hated myself for everything I had put her through and I just wanted to put a gun to my head and pull the trigger.

The conversation continued, with my real parents expressing their genuine curiosity and interest in getting to know me and the life I had built for myself.

My mother spoke with a warm smile, "Elisa, it's clear that you've accomplished so much, and we're incredibly proud of you. We can't wait to get to know you better and be a part of your life."

My father added, "It's amazing to see how you've grown into a successful lawyer, just like Jake. We're looking forward to learning more about your work and your experiences."

As the evening unfolded, we shared stories, laughter, and even a few tears. The atmosphere in the room had transformed from one of uncertainty to a sense of belonging and reunion. It was a reminder that, despite the pain of the past, the bonds of family could be mended and strengthened.
