Part 20

It's nighttime when I get the text message. I had been relaxing with a few other heroes that hanged out in the Woods Agency. I didn't know any of them really but they were inviting and asked me to hang out with the rest of them. It was a good opportunity to rest since I had been training all morning and then went off doing some random errands for the agency in the middle of the day.

The group had just turned on the tv when I pulled out my phone to check. A group chat had been made, but the only people in it were me, Midoriya, and Todoroki. A bit confused, I unlocked my phone and opened up the conversation. The only message came from Midoriya, and from the looks of it he had made the group chat when trying to send a message to both me and Todoroki.

Clicking on the little unopened tab of the message my confusion only grew. The message wasn't even a message, just a recent location. A loud and frantic sound pulled me from my investigation. The news was on, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

The world looked almost as if it was on fire. Whoever holding the camera was shaky, and they seemed out of breath. The news reporter himself seemed out of breath. They were talking about a large amount of monsters appearing in the streets, causing chaos and fighting anyone they could find.

That's when I saw it. A large Nomu, like the thing from the USJ attack, dropped down from a building near the camera. The reporter and cameraman startled and backed up, but the Nomu seemed more preoccupied with the hero that had come running after it. My hands went cold as I read the words displaying across the bottom of the screen.

Hosu City. Slowly glancing down at the location on my phone, the cold from my hands spread up to my shoulders. The little green light was in an alleyway from the looks of it, but zooming out of the map I saw the words I had hoped not to see. Midoriya had sent a recent location message from Hosu City, a place that from the looks of it was currently a war zone.

I dropped my phone. There was this feeling of something crawling under my skin. Fear? Concern? Probably both. I felt panicked and quickly stood up. Other's were standing up too. It made sense, we weren't far from Hosu city and they were actually heroes. I don't know if any of us would make it to the city on time, but even if we didn't we'd still be needed.

I turn when someone places their hand on my shoulder. It's Hibiki. "You should stay here, you're still a hero in training. We've got this." He says. I can feel my head shake before I even shake it. His eyes look worried. "It's fine okay, we've got this, stay safe with the others." He says again, trying to get me to sit back down.

This time I reach up with my right arm and snap his hand back. Nothing painful, but defensive and startling, just like I've been taught. "Now's not the time," I look to the ground before steeling myself and looking up at him, "For immature pity." I'm probably being too harsh, I know that, but I'm not going to sit here when I've received a cryptic message from a war zone.

Letting go of his hand, I reach down and scoop up my phone and type in a quick '?'. Even if he answers I'm already moving for the changing rooms. I close down my phone in hope of closing down some of my current worries and quickly change. Glancing at my mask in the case, I take a moment to glance back at my phone.

No message from Midoriya, but Todoroki has also sent a '?'. Letting out a sigh, I type a response. "Somethings wrong," before shutting off my phone. I snap the mask out of its case and shove it up the front of my hoodie. Uncomfortable, but until I know the situation, this is how it's going to be.

Before anyone can say anything, I whisk into the emergency exit stairway and start going down, jumping over the railing and catching myself every few railings.

Midoriya better be fucking okay.

~~~~~
I had seen Todoroki on my way to the location. We didn't even say anything to each other, just gave a nod and split off. He went down the actual alleys while I climbed onto the roof and jumped across the roofs.
Getting to the alley, I could feel my eyes widen in surprise. Two, no, three people on the ground, not moving. One person standing above, with weapons. Looking close, I connected the dots. One of the people was Midoriya, I could tell from the green. Another seemed to be Iida, if I was remembering his hero outfit correctly. The third, I had no idea, but he was more off to the side.
The fourth person, the one standing with weapons. I could easily recognize his ugly no-nose mug from anywhere. His face has shown up on the news countless times. I had heard about what happened to Iida's brother, but I had never said anything. That was my way of making sure not to push Iida.
The Hero Killer, Stain.
He's certainly going to be a stain soon if he doesn't back off my classmates. A little mushy red stain on the alley floor. If he walks away though, I have an honor code of my own. If he walks away, I won't react.
Seeing him raise the sword of Iida, I shift positions. Suddenly flames interrupt him. Must be Todoroki. Glancing a bit to the side, I see him on the other side of the alleyway. Realizing what this is, I slip my mask on. Stain jumps back from the flames and I take the chance to jump down.
"One after another, there are a lot of people getting in my way today." Stain speaks out.
"Midoriya. You need to give more details in times like this. You made me late." Todoroki says from where he's standing, holding up a phone that zoomed a bit out on his location.
I stay silent. Iida doesn't know who I am, and Todoroki might have put together the context clues but who's to know. Iida lets out a strained, "Todoroki, you too?" and I'm able to put together clues. If Iida's saying that, something happened here and Midoriya probably intervened. Now we're intervening.
Midoriya says something, but I'm a bit too far away to hear. "Why? That's my line. It took me a few seconds to figure out what you meant since you sent just your location info. You're not really one to send that for no reason." He says, extinguishing his flames and stepping forward.
With that single step, ice spreads through the alley, making everyone rise. I step back a bit. I'm still on the ice, but now my feet aren't in it like the other's bodies are.
"You meant that you were in trouble and to call for help right? You made Huntre worried." He says and I shift on my feet at the mention of me. He doesn't say anything else about me, so I can only guess he's put two and two together.
"Don't worry. The pros will also get here in a few minutes!" He says, running forwards and firing flames. He melts his ice, making a ramp that Midoriya and the others slide down.
"This is just like the information about him implies. I won't let you kill these guys' Hero Killer." Todoroki says, now fully taking a stance. During his speaking I had moved to be behind him, checking on the ones stuck and unable to move that he had slid on the ice.
"You can't let this guy see your blood! I think he controls his opponents' actions by ingesting their blood orally! That's how he got all of us!" Midoriya yells out. Helpful information, which makes me glad I chose a hero outfit on the thicker side. I'm sure if Iida had found a way to keep his helmet on, he'd be doing pretty well as well.
Todoroki barely gets through forming a bit of a plan with a knife gets thrown. I'm behind him, and it grazes his cheek. Making sure it doesn't get me as well, I duck low to the ground since I've already shifted stances. The moment Stain tries to get close to Todoroki I run and slide underneath Todoroki's legs. He puts up an ice barrier between him and stain, which also helps propel me into the air.
I put my palms out and recall the power I used when I first appeared as a vigilante. With a bit of a buck backward as if I was using a gun, I watch as the laser-like beams shoot forwards. Four beams that he sees and proceeds to maneuver his way through. Only four though, I should be able to get more than that ready in a bit.
When he tried to fly back forward towards me, since at the moment I seem to be the weakest link cause I'm in the sky, Todoroki blocks him off with a larger piece of ice. I can't even hear what's going on as Todoroki and I do our best to keep him from getting too close, but from the sound of it, Todoroki starts speaking to one of the people on the ground.
Suddenly Todoroki throws up an extremely large amount of ice for this kind of cramped alleyway, and I quickly jump back so that I'm back near Todoroki. "You've got a lot going on behind the scenes in your family, too, huh?" Todoroki says, and I glance back to see Iida looking his way.
Ya'll really out here having a whole conversation in battle huh? I can understand taunting or something with the villain, but you guys just sticking up chit-chat back here.
I startle back when the sound of swords dancing cuts through the ice. The giant barrier breaks into chunks. "To block your own view against an opponent faster than you.. What a foolish plan." Stain says, and me and Todoroki get ready to start fighting again. "I wonder about that-" Todoroki startles with a small pained gasp and I snap my head his way for a second. Two knife-like objects are in his flame arm.
I'm completely ready to deflect the sword and villain coming our way, legs hunched up like I'm about to jump, but someone beats me to it.
