A Pokémon I’ve Never Seen Before

The tourney passed by in a breeze. I won my next two matches in a relatively easy fashion compared to my first one. Kevin did the same and we'll be facing each other tomorrow in the finals. I lounge comfortably on the sofa of the Pokémon Center as I waited for my Pokémon to get their check-up done. Shaymin was sitting comfortably inside my pocket.

"Have you ever tried Pokémon Battling?" I whispered to it out of nowhere. Shaymin just stare at me blankly then continued on whatever it was doing.

"Did you just ignore me?" I said as I started tickling it.

Ting-ting-ting-ting

That was the bell that signals the check up was done. I hurried towards the counter and was greeted there by the nurse of Redhem City, Nurse Seline. Her hair and her eyes were both green and she was wearing standard white uniform.

"Thank you for waiting." She said as she called her assistant Chansey from inside. It came into view carrying my two Pokéballs.

"Thank you very much. " I said as I take it from it.

"Well, good luck for your battle tomorrow." Nurse Seline said.

"I will. Thank you. I'll be going now." I said as I waved goodbye. I head out of the center without a place to go in particular. I took a left turn from the center and then walked straight. It's still early afternoon, and this is a rare time when Noel wasn't around to bug me so I decided to take a quick stroll on the greenery inside the city.

Greenery is just a hyperbole since most of the plants and trees here were covered with snow. As usual not much wild Pokémon can be found here but there was a herd of Volbeat and Illumise that passed by just a while ago. I continued walking until I notice an odd rock beside a tree. It was the size of a soccer ball with green spikes on its surface. I bend to examine it closely. Shaymin suddenly jumped out of my pocket and landed beside the rock.

"Do you know what it is?" I asked. Shaymin was circling around the rock then started poking it. I was watching Shaymin when I notice that the rock started shaking. Earhtquake? That was my initial reaction until I realized that it was just the rock that was moving. Shaymin pokes it once more and I extend my arm to snatch it away from the rock when suddenly the rock jump that made me step back. Shaymin was jumping happily. Beside it, where the rock has been, is a brownish Pokémon covered with brown sturdy looking shell on its back and a green patch with spikes that looks more like a cap on its head.

"Chep-puh..." it said as it pumps its claw on its chest.

"Hi there little one." I said as I bend my knee so I can see it on eye level as possible. Though I have never seen something like this before, I can bet my title that this Pokémon is a grass type based on its appearance. Shaymin took its claws on both of its hands then began spinning with it. The other Pokémon took its claws back and began sniffing around like it was searching for something. Shaymin started to follow the mysterious Pokémon just as I heard a rustle from a nearby grass patch. Without another word, the spikes on the head of the mysterious Pokémon shone and it launches a strong Pin Missile towards the rustling grass.

"Oh, what was that all about?" I said as I catch up with them. As an answer, the rustling grass shook stronger and I saw a pair of purple horns protruded out of it.

"Uh-oh," I muttered to myself as a gigantic Scolepede came out of the grass and growl towards us. I don't know how Scolepedes usually are but I can tell this one is a really angry one. Its horns glowed then began charging at us. Instinct kicks in and I grabbed Shaymin with my right hand and the other Pokémon on my left shoving them both in my pocket then started to run. I didn't look back but I know that the Scolepede was in pursuit, and it's really, really fast. I made a left turn towards a huge tree that made some distance with my pursuer. I continue running in zigzag until the Scolipede was out of sight. As soon as I got out of the forest, I went straight to the Pokémon center. I was practically panting when I reach the counter where Nurse Seline was.

"Is everything alright?" she asked, worried.

I can't speak as I was still catching my breath, so I just took out the mysterious Pokémon from my pocket and put it on the counter top.

"Cheppp..." it purred.

"Who is this Pokémon? Is it hurt somewhere?" she asked as she immediately examines the Pokémon.

"I just picked it up from the forest as we were chased by a Scolipede. I have never seen that Pokémon before so I was thinking maybe you have an idea about it." I finally said.

"Well, I'm not sure about it, but it seems really familiar..." Nurse Seline said as she scratches her chin, thinking.

"Ah! I remember now!" She said after a moment. She head out of the counter and when she return she held out a picture to me. "Isn't it this little one?"

After fifteen minutes of waiting, a girl, I think she is a year or two older than me, burst into the Pokémon center. She has blue eyes, blonde hair and was wearing a pink dress. She immediately went straight towards us.

"Hello, Celeste." Nurse Seline greeted her.

"Hi Nurse Seline, I received your call so I went here as soon as I can, sorry if I took so long." The girl, Celeste, said.

"No, it's ok, here it is." Nurse Seline said as she picks up the mysterious Pokémon from below and presented it to Celeste.

"Chespin! You had me so worried!" she exclaimed as she embraces the Pokémon. So I guess its name is Chespin.

"Jessaise here is the one who found it. He even saved it from a rampaging Scolipede." Nurse Seline said, introducing me. Not knowing what to say, I just smiled and nodded.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't notice you; I was just really worried about Chespin. I'm Celeste." Celeste said as she held out her hand.

"My name is Jessaise." I said as I took it. Another trainer arrived and Nurse Seline was attending to him already so we decided to sit on one of the benches outside the center. Shaymin was quietly observing the stranger. I was so relieved Chespin wasn't wondering why Shaymin isn't going out of my pocket.

"So, what really happened there? I saw Chespin in the forest. I think it was camouflaging since it was curled up and at first I actually thought it was a rock." I asked.

"I'm really sorry for the trouble. See, this little one is one of the starter Pokémon from Kalos Region and can only be seen in there." She started. I'm about to ask how come it was here but she already answered me on her next sentence.

"See, we run a Pokémon Daycare back in Brunicle Town. Another Daycare owner from the Kalos visited us and gave me an Egg to thank us for our hospitality. The egg soon hatches to this Chespin."

Chespin was struggling against her grip from her lap so she let it hop off and run around. She looked at me so I just nodded and she continued.

"Chespin's are supposed to be gentle and mild but this little seems to be full of energy always wanted to run around and engage in Pokémon battle. Then last night it manages to get out of the hotel unnoticed and I was looking for it since then. Thank you for finding and saving it. As I know it, it probably is the one who provokes that Scolipede to attack you. I'm so sorry." She explained.

"Well, it's a bit something like that." I said scratching my head and chuckling a little.

A faint explosion has gotten our attention. We both look towards the direction that was just beyond the back of the center and Celeste immediately searched for Chespin. I didn't even notice that there's nothing running around anymore. We both shot to our feet and run towards the back.

"Chespin!" Celeste screamed as we saw it on its back on the ground an enormous purple Pokémon in front of it. So the Scolipede has found us here. Before I could even react, Celeste was already beside Chespin and has called out a Mr. Mime.

"Use Psybeam!" Celeste commanded and Mr. Mime immediately unleashed a rainbow-colored beam from its palms.

Scolipede manage to dodge and countered a Mega Horn that hits Mr. Mime big time. It was sent back and landed near Celeste and Chespin who was now on its feet. By the determined look in its eyes, it wants to battle but I won't suggest for it in its current condition. Scolipede was already charging for another Mega Horn towards Celeste's direction. In a flash, Sceptile was out and deflected Scolipede's horn with an X-Scissor. I run towards Celeste and help her stand up.

"Thank you again." She said as she withdrew Mr. Mime, picked up Chespin and run towards the back. I shift my attention towards the rampaging Scolipede. It was stomping its hind feet clearly agitated. I don't really know how to chase it back to the forest but if it wants a fight I'll give it one.

"Sceptile, use Aerial Ace!" I said. Sceptile jumped, somersaulted, and charged with Aerial Ace but before it can land the hit, an Ice Beam hit Scolipede first. Sceptile jumped back and we all look towards the direction where the Ice Beam came from. Standing there was a Swalot and behind it was, well it's Kevin.

"What are you doing?" I asked.

"Well, we're dealing with a Poison type here so let the master take it from here ok?" he said. Scolipede went for another Megahorn and was charging towards Swalot.

"Swalot use Ice Beam again!" Kevin ordered and Swalot launches a freezing beam from its mouth that hits Scolipede on the torso. "Finish it up with Earthquake!"

Swalot jumped as high as its plump body can and crash to the ground making a tremor concentrated to where Scolipede was standing. Scolipede was knocked off its feet. Before it can stand again, Kevin threw a Pokéball catching it. The ball shook three times until it was sealed and Kevin pick it up and showed it to me.

"See this? I doubt you will be able to subdue this baby." He said taunting me again. I didn't bite it. "You might meet this guy tomorrow again. See you in your defeat." He said as he stalked out of sight.

"Isn't that?" Celeste started to ask.

"Yes." I answered cutting her question. "Let's get them to the Pokémon center." I suggested.

"Thank you for saving us again." Celeste said after the check up was done.

"Well I didn't do much anyway." I replied.

The sun has already set and I haven't seen Noel all afternoon. Chespin approached me and started poking at my pocket. Shaymin chuckled and poke back. I lift Chespin up before Celeste notice something else and pet it on the head.

"That guy is your opponent tomorrow right?" she asked.

"Yeah." I answered.

"Well, I think he's a douche, so kick his butt tomorrow okay? We will be watching." Celeste said. Chespin jumped off and both of them started walking away not waiting for my reply. After a few step she looked back and waved. I waved back.
