Six metallic teacups spun around in a circle, an eternal circuit with the occupants crying out to go faster. Why couldn't we have chosen to go on that ride instead? Then I stumbled backwards when the operator gave the people what they wanted.
The ride sped up so much that everyone was pinned back in their seats. There was nothing but a blur as the innocent-looking teacups threatened to rock off their tracks, and when it finally ground to a halt, some riders staggered off, their faces bearing looks of permanent shock as they threw up.
Others weren't so lucky. They weren't dead by any means, but somehow the g-forces had caused their bodies to warp to the shapes of their seats.
'Stay back,' the operator said to Cali. 'These people got what they wanted, and they'll live.'
Butland leaned close to Cali next. 'The effects of this ride aren't permanent; see the centre column?'
