TELL ME YOUR NAME

Garfield.

The only thing I hated about  visiting my dad was that time always tend to speed up. It was like the universe never loved that idea because each time I did, five minutes with him would suddenly turn to two hours then before I knew it ,the warden would tell us our time is up and have my dad back in his cell while I promised to come visit again.

I kept on staring at the door my dad had disappeared to wishing he'd come back but he didn't and after realizing how suspicious and stupid I looked just gazing at a freaking door I decided to get up. It was time to leave.

"Hey you?" A familiar voice called from across the room.

I turned to see who it belonged to, "Yes you," The owner of the voice pointed at me,he  had a pair of strikingly familiar blue eyes and a mass messy of blonde hair sticking in all direction on his head. Looked like an eagle's nest.

My eyes widened at the realization that he was the boy from the party last week. What on earth was he doing here, of all places. He seemed too perfect to have someone on lock up but here he was, visiting one of the inmates probably his father or uncle except they didn't look familiar to be related. The inmate he was with had dark skin : maybe adopted father. I felt like banging my head on the wall for thinking too much.

"Dude it's me," He waved, making all eyes turn between the two of us. There was no way in hell I was talking to that guy.

I ignored him and walked out of the room and my ears immediately picking up the shuffle of feet behind me, from the corner of my eye,I saw him trying to catch up with me as I quickened my pace. I got my ID back from the front gates and headed straight to the main gate.

"Hey wait!" He called frantically, almost out of breath. "Stop please!"

I stopped, turning on my heel only to see him bent over, hands on his knees, panting hard trying to get his wind back. "Thanks," He shut his eyes and exhaled then got up, he looked like he would pass out any second."I..fuck." He opened his eyes and pushed back the fringe sticking on his head though it was a useless move because they returned to their previous position. "Man you're fast!"

I wanted to argue back, tell him I wasn't running but bit my tongue and crossed my arms over my chest, eyebrows furrowed together eyes fixated on the blonde.

"Yeah, think I'm okay now," He muttered mostly to himself then looked at me with a small smirk and said, "Hey?" My response was an annoyed huff.

"Umm.. Where are you headed to?"

I didn't answer.

"Do you want a ride? I could drop you off and maybe you can tell me your name, you remember mine, don't you?"

What was his name, Jace? Nope, his name started with R. Rey? Ron? Riley ? Roy? Ross? They don't ring a bell. I remember thinking his name was weird, it was a weather element and what weather started with R. Rain . Bingo!

I nodded at him and the lad's small smirk turned to a wide toothy grin revealing a set of dazzling white teeth. "My car's this way," He pointed at the parking lot. I have no idea how I agreed to follow him.

Of course he had a range Rover!

Although reluctant, I got into the luxury car that smelled of expensive leather, cedar, chips, axe and weed. He revved up the engine and carefully pulled out of the parking lot. My eyes remained focused on the eagle wing tattoo on his right arm. The fact that the skin around the tattoo had nasty red gash told me it was recent, besides I don't remember seeing it the other night.

"What were you doing there?" I broke my own oath of total silence.

"He talks," Rain chuckled, slowing down as he approached the security check.

He stopped the car and the guard carefully surveyed the car, eyeing me suspiciously before letting us through.

"Will you answer?"

"Will you tell me your name?" He challenged, raising up a brow at me then chuckled when I huffed. I have no idea what was amusing.

"Are you always this grumpy or you woke up on the wrong side of the bed?" His eyes darted at me then back on the road. "What happened to your face? Someone beat you up?" He sounded concerned though played it off with a chuckle.

I became silent, turning my attention to the moving train on the other side of the road, up ahead was the city sky line. The empire state standing tall and majestic among others.

"I'm a law student," He spoke softly, a lot more serious than before, "I hate the justice system in our country. Do you know how many innocent people have been condemned to life imprisonment or worse a death sentence while the guilty ran free?"

"So you think you can overturn the system?"

"I'm too small for that," He admitted, "But I can try helping as much as I can. There's this project I'm working on..digging up some cases that went cold."

"Uh Good luck with that,"

"I know you don't mean it," He laughed softly, "But thanks. You, who were you visiting?"

"No one,"

"Liar," He accused, "But it's okay. Its maybe too personal to share, so how about that name?"

"It's too personal,"

He groaned in frustration and I found myself smiling at his reaction. I wanted to just give him my name to end his suffering but seeing him suffer for it was my muse. My name wasn't even close to awesome. I shared a named with a lazy fat Siamese cat that loved lasagna. He had a nice name, Rain even though I found it weird, it made me want to question if his parents ran out of names for him. Tyler's a nice name but Rain suits him.

"You have a cute smile," I felt my cheeks heat up at his comment.

"Fuck you,"

"Already did, unless you want to do it again. I can find us a nice secure spot in an alley then do it in the back seat."

Answering him would just add more ideas on his loose brain. I kept my mouth shut and decided to pay more attention as we drove into the city. Telling him to drop me off at the subway station heading to Queens would just give the guy clues ideas on where I lived. My eyes caught sight of Gertrude hospital that a block away and I pointed at it.

"Drop me off at the hospital,"

"Are you sick?"

"Nope, I'm visiting, my brother's admitted in there,"

"Oh really?" He cocked his eyes to the side, "The one who sold us drugs with you. He's sick?" He feigned concern and I felt like kicking his teeth in. Lying is always second to nature to me, well it was until Rain showed up.

"Well yes," I retorted, "Sickness doesn't come knocking on the door ,does it? "

"I'm not arguing," He shrug, stopping at a cross road and hundreds of people rushed by. Finally, he pulled up at the hospital and just as I was about to jump out, he locked the doors.

"What the hell!"

"I know you won't tell me your name," Genius finally figured it out, if I had a confetti gun, I'd shoot it on his face while celebrating. "So I'll give you something of mine instead," He stretched out his hand to me and said, "Gimme your phone,"

"Just give it. Jesus you're a piece of work."

I shoved my phone and handed it to him. One look later, he gave the phone back, face twisted in frustration and annoyance, "Pass code,"

"Really?"

I tapped in my code 1234 and handed the phone back. He quickly typed in something, took a picture and handed the phone back to me. "You saved your number in my phone,"

"Yeah , that way you can call me whenever." He unlocked the doors.

"What makes you think I'll call?"

"I know you will. Tell your brother I said get well soon."

I slammed the door on my way out and started walking towards the hospital. When he honked, I turned around to see him roll down his window and wave. I responded by flipping the bird at him, he laughed and drove away.

Somehow my spirits were lifted.
