The two, farm king and mutant crop set out to look for other mutants. They started with their own farm. No stone left unturned. Every nook and cranny searched. They met strange things. And the place was turned upside down and inside out. Sad.
It's crazy what advanced technology could do. Such power is supposed to be stripped from those possessing it and completely destroyed. Great power equals great responsibility to some people must mean being responsible for a whole load of damage.
But what can powerless people do? Here's a guess, unite and be strong together to resist. It's how colonialism ends. Sande and his crops have the right idea. Almost can't wait for the grasshoppers to come and see the dust. Or be the dust. Literally!
The place was too quiet. There was no sign of life for miles. So many people were abducted. Not good. Sande couldn't walk anymore and his stomach wouldn't stop rumbling. Mutated or not, people needed refreshing. Sande is people.
"Maybe we should take a break Potee. There could be nobody out there. " Sande advises out of breath.
"Potee! Really! " She complains.
Never a big fan of nicknames.
"Let's sit down a bit. "Sande suggests already sitting under a tree .
"Weak humans. " Potato mocks.
'Arrogant plant! ' Sande thinks.
Potato gives him the stink eye. Sande however, doesn't notice. Suddenly, potato feels the familiar tingly sensation of a presence she hasn't seen yet.
And she knows too well that someone or something is approaching. She stays alert actually looking out there far and wide thanks to the landscape for anyone.
For some reason, she doesn't see anyone even when she feels their presence.
'Another chameleon ?' She wonders.
Could there be two people or beings sharing the same power? Or is it just Sande's presence that she feels. She wonders if Sande could hear the thoughts of the approaching mutant. It has to be a mutant from how she feels plugged in into their energy. I think it should be something like the infrared radiation.
Don't expect the Potato to have figured herself out already but she knows for sure it's a kind of a heat. A radiation.
"Something is wrong. "Sande gets up suddenly looking alarmed.
In turn Potato gets alarmed too.
"What is? " She asks.
Sande looks around as if looking for someone or something. Potato starts to panic because her sensations tell her there is a presence among them.
"Who is there? I can throw a potato really hard. " Potato cautions.
They exchange glances with Sande. He then starts slapping his head like it's a flashlight that's stopped working. Potato gets confused by the action.
"What are you doing? "She asks.
"I can't hear any thoughts. Not yours, not of the rest of the crops back home. Something is wrong. I think I lost my power. "Sande says frightened.
Potato muses over how he could hear all the thoughts of the other crops all the way out here. But refocuses on the problem at hand. How could he suddenly just lose his power. Will theirs work? For how long because hers are working for now. Whom will be the king?
It's good that someone's thoughts don't affect your head. She tries to calm down and think straight.
"Mine are still working and I feel a presence so close to you. And I also can't hear your thoughts. Or are you not thinking anything ?" Potato asks.
"I was... I... " Sande manages out panic stricken but pauses before jumping onto a something falling while holding onto the whatever.
Now potato think their farm king has completely lost it. But before she can question him about it, a person appears underneath Sande. Potato almost jumps in fright. She would never be comfortable watching horror movies with scars creepy crawlies pop up. Or maybe if the bumpkin could convince her he's got an advantage for free cuddles. Don't dwell on that, could be a joke!
So Sande finally gets off the groaning man. He is happy he can hear Potees's thoughts again.
"Glad to have you back. " Potato says sarcastically with a glare towards Sande.
The man smiles guiltily but feels good to be back. We're all glad but the question is how it was gone in the first place. Potato looks at the other man suspiciously. She inspected the man like some specimen under a microscope. She tries figuring him out.
"So what exactly are you? What do you do? "Potato asks curiously.
"I'll answer that for you, creeping up on people and being very weird. " Sande pipes up looking annoyed. He scrunches his nose, "And your breathe is so foul. There is something called breath mints. "
Potato tried to hide in her laughter. Really tried. But how pissed Sande looked made a giggle slip.
