The queen glanced in the direction of his brother and the king. The two were still talking about plans for the hunters in their own country. "There were some attacks that killed vampires outside the city. Laia volunteered to join the investigation. Hunters were involved, and some of the keepers suspected her of having the knowledge of what it was about. Your father made her talk."
"Actually, we were disappointed that you didn't tell us about it sooner. We could have warned those innocent vamps." Drendall had bitten her lower lip, then she looked back at him. "But we understand. You don't really like being a vampire."
"No." He abruptly countered. "Don't think about that." His conscience was gnawing at him too. It was his fault. It was selfish of him. But the deed was already done. And yet he would make another selfish decision soon.
