Darmian's P.O.V:
I finished the coding and I waited. No one came.
I had all the questions in the world and no answers. Damon had warned me. Went against the rules to give me the heads up. Why? How many people messed up that I had needed a warning?
Who was the council?
I laid back on the bed. She is getting a lot of credit for creating a genius.
How had she created a genius? When I worked my butt off learning? It's not like she just inserted all the information into my head. That much I was certain about. She wasn't getting credit for creating a genius. She was getting credit for my hard work.
I heard a sound as a note appeared in the wall. Turned out the tubes were also a way of constant communication.
"Shower and put on your best outfit. Look nice, be prepared, bring your coded book with you. I will come get you soon so be ready. Do not screw this up and make me look bad. A lot of people paid good money to see you succeed."
~Curshia(pronounced cure-she-ah)
I sighed at the note. I guess today was the day. I showered, brushed my teeth, washed my face, put on cologne and deodorant, brushed my hair and put on a white suit that was in the closet. I looked in the mirror, took a deep breath and smiled. I got this.
The door opened and I came out of the bathroom and into the room grabbing my book. Looking at the black dress she wore I realized there was a reason my suit was white. It had dawned on me that I had never seen her with her hair down. I realized she had given me her name.
Curshia.
She was beautiful.
"Darmian"
I looked back at her eyes and for the first time since I saw her, she smiled at me.
She walked out the room and I followed her through the mansion seeing more of the rooms. I had counted 45 and some of the doors were open a little allowing me to see other people. Shortly after that we came to a flight of stairs that led down into a huge room with a stage. She called it an auditorium.
She escorted me to the stage and up to the podium. I looked out into the rows of empty chairs and my heart raced. I hoped I wouldn't freeze up and embarrass myself. I definitely don't want to embarrass Curshia. Not sure why I cared so much about embarrassing her when this was the first tine she was nice to me. When my performance relied on hers. She sat in the front row staring at me.
Smile, breathe, recite.
I mumbled to myself the book that lay in front of me. I had taken the extra time to memorize the "speech".
How many others had given the same speech? Said these same words in front of the council? How many had failed and been sentenced to death?
Smile. Recite. Breathe.
I took a large deep breath, closing my eyes and focusing. I would not fail. As I opened my eyes I realized the curtain had been closed on me. When opened again I assumed the council would be behind it, waiting to hear me speak. Curshia came behind the curtain and hugged me, wished me good luck and walked away.
Soon after I heard some shuffling as I was being introduced to the council by Curshia. She stated my name, my room number and my "place of origin". Having had a map in my room I'd have to research it later.
The curtain opened and in front of me sat at least 50 people in black suits and another 20 in white suits that looked like mine. Were they all to speak too? To give a speech like I'm about to?
Curshia gave me a thumbs up. This was a whole other side of her. It felt all too foreign to me. I would have rather her yell at me to get it together and speak.
I took a deep breath and began word for word.
"Hello. I, Darmion, am being presented to you under the careful and thoughtful act of Curshia, my creator. She believes that I am ready to be alive again. I have the skill, the determination, the looks, the brains and the charm to make your dreams come true. I am the best thing you will ever see in your life. The work of this wonderful establishment has done me justice. It is now time for me to do you justice. If you will grant me the honor to be your vessel it will be my pleasure to offer you only the finest of results. I, Darmion, appreciate amazing opportunity to live. Thank you for your wonderful time. Now I must take the pledge. I pledge my life, my love, my brains, my everything to this establishment and its members as I shall become one myself. Live, Be Great, Save the World."
I took a bow and took a step back from the podium as the curtain closed.
I didn't stutter. I didn't look at the book. I knew it by heart. I didn't even realize what I had said until it was too late. I had taken the pledge. I signed my fate with my own voice. But if I pass...
Does it mean I get to be alive?
I stood there in my own head when I realized I was being talked to.
"I knew you wouldn't disappoint me. You didn't stray. Not a single word wrong and you even memorized it." Curshia said to me with the biggest smile I'd ever seen...in the past two weeks.
I would have said in my life but I apparently don't have one. None of this answered my questions. It only caused more questions.
The curtain opened and suddenly the smile left her face. She stood next to me as the council leader stood up.
"I approve"
Those two words made my heart flutter. Today was all about new feelings I guess.
