Where are we going, Mr.Grim?" Autumn asks, looking up at me glassy-eyed. The thoughts of her mother still playing in her head; memories begin surging through our hands. Our eyes open, and this is the first moment seeing her mother. They're both so happy to see each other; this time, those tears are the best they'd shed. The father steps into eyeshot, smiling as bright as the sun, opposite both girls' glossy eyes. Both parents worried yet ecstatic to look at the beautiful life created; Autumn closes her eyes, then another memory plays. Tears once again stream down Autumn's face; this time, I can tell it's because of fear. I think a nightmare, but as she cries out, her parents rush in, turning on the lights and instantly swaddling her.
"It's okay cocoa bean" Autumn's father whispers to her, " Honey, I'm gonna help her into different pajamas. Can you change the sheets? He then asks.
'Of course, my loves." she says before giving them both kisses. Both of them occupying opposite ends of the room as they speed through these tasks; I figure it has been about six years now since Autumn's birth. Still scared but relieved to see both of them here with her. The whole situation puts a small smile on my face, although I sense this trip isn't over. I'm glad to see Autumn was able to have those moments; she deserved way more than the given hand.
" Hey mister, did you remember the hot cocoa when you went to the supermarket earlier?" Autumn's mother asks as she finishes up the bed.
Her father replies with a smile, " Yes hun, why my princesses want some hot cocoa before we go to bed?"
" We'd love that," Her mother replies while playing with Autumn's curls. I can feel the happiness almost like a warm blanket here. One of the many things that makes this short life way more meaningful and worthwhile. I remember meeting her father; I didn't get the chance to shake his hand and see this, but I'm glad he can finally be with his daughter again. Soon they'll all be together hand in hand once more; they deserve that happy ending.
