chapter one

After sitting in the same position for over 30 minutes reading a book, I looked up shifting my attention from my book to the door in front of me. I could see Hazel coming out of the school closet, she peeped first Probably to confirm if people were still in the halls. She scanned the area before settling her eyes on me.

"Elise, you are still here?" She walked up to me and rested on the wall next to me.

"Yeah, you told me to wait a minute before you rushed off to…" I stopped talking as I heard the same closet Hazel was just in creek open.

I already knew what Hazel and Jackson were doing in there, but it was more obvious from how flustered they both looked and the fact that they couldn't be quiet in there, people who were in the halls before they left for classes probably knew too but it's college, so nobody cares.

"uh, Elisa you are here," Jackson said as he scratched the back of his head.

I didn't reply, I just returned to reading my book.

"Don't worry she is cool" Hazel assured Jackson before walking up to him.

"Sure, um let me walk you to your class" Jackson took Hazel's hand in his and led her to her class, leaving me behind.

I let out a loud sigh before dropping my book on the floor and resting my head in my hands.

I looked up after a while and looked in the direction they went but they were long gone from my range of sight.

Hazel and I have been friends for a long time now and she is like the only person I say more than two words to and I feel comfortable. Hazel has always been the pretty girl that everyone wants but somehow we became friends. Sometimes I find myself thinking if we were in a movie, I would probably be an extra.

I didn't mind though, it suits my character very much and I am used to dimming my light so others can shine, I did it to the extent that I have no light to even attempt to shine.

I guess it's time to go. I tried to stand up but being in the same position for so long made it harder than usual. I almost made an impact with the floor but I somehow steadied myself on the wall. I picked up my book and strolled down the empty halls quietly, thinking of nothing in particular.

My shift at the restaurant felt extra long but the last customer just left which means my shift is almost over. I cleaned the tables and mopped the floors before grabbing my clothes for the employee's locker room, I picked up my bag and locked it up before turning to face the empty streets.

The silence as I walked down the lonely road was oddly uncomfortable, somehow I felt cautious like someone was watching me but I failed to show that I had noticed.

I didn't walk any faster because I knew nothing was going to happen at least not today. I have been feeling this way for over a month now and I came to two conclusions, the first is that I'm being paranoid and nothing is actually watching me, the second is the person is being patient and waiting for the right time to strike.

I thought it was probably the first because, why would anyone want me. I don't matter, as an extra I serve very little purpose in life.

The cold night made me stick my hands in my pocket as I neared the train station, I had to go home and finish a project I had started but didn't have any motivation to continue.
