Chapter 5 - Mary

Days have gone by since the incident with Alicia. Candy had expected Mary to showed up or hear any news about her but she got nothing. The past few days, there were always a new maid who came to bring her food. But whenever she ask the maid what's happening or where was Mary, she got no reply. So Candy gave up on asking. But since the incident have happened, the change in her food had gone bad too.

Recently, the food that has been brought to her would just be moldy bread and a pair of stinky cheese and that would be all she had to eat for the entire day. Candy didn't care about the food anymore, she wanted Mary.

Candy laid in her bed full of thoughts and worries.

"Did they really punished Mary? Did they fired her? Did they find out it was really me?" Such thoughts ran over and over in Candy head.

The door to the room open and Candy sprang up to only see the face of a new maid bringing in her food. The maid was small and had brown hair and brown eyes with freckles all over her face. Candy got up from her bed and went straight towards the maid. She was going to act different this time.

"How dare you come into my room and not knock? Do you not know who I am?"

The maid only looked at Candy and then at the tray of food she was carrying. Thinking of what to do and what to say. But she then proceeded to put the tray of food on the table and turn around to leave.

"Did you not hear me?" Candy said as she grab the maid arm.

The maid turned around and was unbothered by Candy grabbing her arm. She tried to untangle herself and walk away but Candy held her arm tighter. Knowing that Candy was not going to let go without a fight, she stood still.

"Miss, please let go of me. If you don't, I'm afraid you won't like the consequences. I was only told to bring your food."

"So, you can finally speak! I thought you must be muted or they must have cut your tongue off! What? You call this food? A dog gets better food than this! No! I won't let go! Go tell my father or whatever!" Candy yelled out as she grab the maid arm tighter.

"Miss. Please do not make this harder. I only followed what I was told to do. This was order from Miss Crosshearts. If you do not let me go, I'm afraid I will have to get the guards up here."

"No! I won't let you go until you answer me! Where is Mary?"

"Mary? I don't know a Mary, miss?"

"What? You don't know Mary! Mary is my maid!"

"Sorry miss, I'm still new here but I have not seen a maid named Mary. Now, please let me go."

Shocked at the reply, Candy let go of her release on the maid arm. The maid massage the area of the arm that Candy held.

"I will have to report this to miss Crosshearts." She told Candy and quickly left the room.

Candy was still stunned and thoughts ran through her head.

"Did they fired Mary? Or did Mary took the blame? Is Mary ok?"

Having no appetite, Candy went to her bed and laid down.

As the night fell and the darkness filled the room. Candy suddenly felt a swarm of emotions weld inside her and cried.

"I guess this is it?" She said to herself as tears ran down her face.
