Candy woke up from the cold floor. It was dark and she couldn't tell if it was morning or night. She didn't even know how long she was unconscious for. As she tried to get up, she could feel the sharp pain on her back.
'Ugh'
Her throat was dried and she wanted water. She tried to rummage around in the dark looking for a light. She pried open a box with her hands and felt a waxy stick.
'Is this a candle?'
She touch the stick like a blind person, trying to figure its shape. After touching it for a while, she found out it was indeed a candle. But her next dilemma was how to light it up. If there were candles, there must be a match to light it up. Candy open another box and another till she found it. The box filled with matches were small. Candy took one of the matches and lit up the candle. It took a few tries but she did it. A small light illuminated the room. She never realized how much stuff was locked up in this tower. As much as she wanted to explore the rest of the junk, she wanted food and water. But to get water, she would have to climb the stairs all the way up to her room.
One step, two step.
The first step was hard but if she keeps going she could reach the top. Her body was sore from the beating but her desire to eat was stronger.
At the top of the stairs, she stopped to take a few deep breaths. She went in her room and grab the cup of water that was left on the table. She gulp the water down and took a look around the room. The sun was out that gave a clue that it was daylight. Candy went to the window to check what was happening outside. But she saw nothing.
