Empowering the self

As mom said, Maya decided to join the course. She was interested in spiritual practices since forever. She didn't know where she got that from, but she knew that it was the best thing that could happen to her. She was interested in wizardry too, but didn't give it much of a thought. Sure, she was fascinated by Paulo Coelho's Brida and books similar to that one, but she somehow found it strange. It always made her mind think about weird things.

She now got the chance to engage herself in these practices, so she was happy and nervous at the same time. None of her friends were interested in these things. But she knew, she knew that something was there, out in the universe, holding great power a human could never imagine. There was a superpower, which she wanted to learn about the fullest. She always thought that learning about these practices would somehow help her in the future. But she always brushed off that thought because she found it stupid for a simple girl like her to possess those powers.

She got off from her bed, deciding to freshen up a bit. She went to the bathroom and washed her face. She stood in front of the mirror, wiping her face. When she was done, she stared at her reflection in the mirror. 'I should start to take better care of my skin...', she thought,' it has become very dry....'

She opened the door and almost tripped because of the small toy car in front of the door. 'Shit....', she said, panting from the strong impact,'who put that thing here?" She picked it up and threw it in the toy box. She sensed something, but shrugged it off.

She went down to eat the breakfast. "Maya, when will you be back from the session? Tell me the time, because I have to go out too...", her mom asked while laying the food. "I don't know, maybe 5?", she replied. "Ok, then I will give the keys to Mrs. Smith next door. When you are back, take the keys from her, alright?", her mom said. "Ok!", Maya. Her mom went upstairs to get ready and came down within some minutes. "I will come back by 7, if you are hungry, there is food in the fridge, ok, sweetie?", her mom told her. "Yes, mom! Don't worry about me! TOODLES!", Maya shouted for her to hear. "Bye!", her mother's faint voice came from the door. She finished her breakfast and cleaned the table up. Now ready to leave the house, she shut off all the fans and lights before leaving. Once she was at the door, she turned around to check if something's  remaining. She noticed that the light of her dad's bedroom was on. She frowned. "Hm, strange! Dad is not here for the whole week, why is the light on? I guess Mom was there for cleaning or something, let me go shut it off.", she stepped towards the room. For the first time in her life, she felt strange going to her father's room. Her hands were suddenly cold. She didn't know why she was getting this feeling. It was kind of strange and creepy. Like those you get while going to a dark, unknown and scary place. 'It's just dad's room, Maya, chill.', she thought. She didn't know if the fact that she was alone in the house was making her scared or the fact that only her dad's room's light was on when he wasn't even there for the whole week, was making her scared. She decided not to get scared and just calmly shut the lights down and get back. But for some reason, she lost the control on herself. She became more scared at each step she took. Her heart was pumping fast, forming drops of sweat on her forehead, her hands became insanely cold as if they were ice. At one moment, she felt as if her head was spinning. "You scared, Maya?" Maya heard it from her back. She abruptly turned around to see whose voice it was, but obviously nobody was there. She was alarmed now. She started taking meticulous steps towards her father's room. "You are scared, I know that...", a raspy, deep voice said which was followed by a chortle. Maya got herself together. "No, I am not scared, of whomever you are.....", she said. She heard the giggle again. She decided not to step back and took her final steps towards the room. She was at the door now. She took a deep breath and went inside the room. The room was empty... and before she could think of anything, the lights suddenly went off. "Oh, crap...",she cursed at the situation. She slid her hand towards the light switch to check if it was on. She found it on and switched it off. Then she turned around to get out of the room. 'Whew...!', she thought, 'what was that voice?' "It was me.",the weird voice said again. Her face turned pale. She veered around with her palpitating heart to check again. She knew, something was wrong. She didn't waste a second before getting out of the house. She panted, standing outside the house. Again, she calmed herself down, trying not to think what just happned. But that voice kept echoing in her head. She took off to her class. She was still shivering because of what happened, but she shrugged it off and reached her destination. Running to her classroom, Maya was thinking about what would happen next.

She entered the classroom with a whish. She saw a lady in a white dress. Somehow Maya felt that the lady had a very strong first impression on her. The lady spoke,"So, our first lesson is about empowering the self....."
