Zawadi hummed a familiar tune as she got herself ready to go to the hospital. It was the first time she had scheduled an appointment with the doctor after her pregnancy.
She gasped then relaxed when she felt a familiar pair of arms wrap around her.She moved her head back and relaxed into Lucas's chest.
"I am so happy. Today we will get to see our baby for the first time. " she said cheerfully.
"I know, I am also happy. Thank you. I am the happiest man on earth because of you. I love you" he Said and kissed her hair.
"I should be the one thanking you. I love you " she told him.
"Come on, let's go. We will be late" he said.
Lucas tapped his foot nervously on the wooden floor. They were currently seated in the doctors office.
"Why are you nervous Mr Steele? It's going to be okay" the doctor said amused and Zawadi let out a small laugh.
"Miss Mwamba if you could just lay down here" he directed Zawadi to the little bed in the corner of the room. "Now raise your shirt up " she said.
Zawadi jumped a bit when the cold liquid came into contact with her skin.
"Sorry about that, it can be a bit cold" the doctor said.
"There is your baby, the little dot right here. Since it's still early in the pregnancy, it is still tiny. But it's healthy.
" the doctor told them, her gaze fixed on the screen before her.
"Wow" Lucas said and the doctor smiled at Zawadi.
"It's our baby, Lucas. That's our baby" Zawadi cried, her head buried in Lucas chest.
"I know, baby. " he said rubbing circles around her arms.
"I'll get the picture printed for you" the doctor said and left.
"I can't wait to be a mother" Zawadi said with a sigh as she gave Eva a hug.
Eva had passed by to check on Zawadi and also see the picture if the ultra sound.
"I can't wait to be a grandma either" Eva said back." I hope it turns out to be a little girl. I have always wanted to have a granddaughter. " She added.
"I wish my mother could be this happy about the baby. Or the fact that I have found them after so long" Zawadi said, her expression turning sad.
"Maybe she will be. You should talk to her. She is a mother too. A mother is always happy when her child is happy. You should go see her " Eva suggested.
"But what if... " Eva cut her off.
"Don't think too hard. Just go see her. " Eva encouraged.
"You are right. I do want us to get along so a talk would be great. " she said.
"Alright, I have to get going. Tell Lucas I passed by" Eva said.
"I will. Goodbye" she gave her one last hug before she left.
Zawadi took out her phone and dialled Lisa's number.
"What do you want?" she asked rudely.
"I was just wondering if you could meet me somewhere, I need to talk to you "she said calmly.
"What do you want to talk about? "I am very busy. Some of us have to actually work, unlike others who trap men who are rich and enjoy their wealth." she spat with malice.
Zawadi's heart clenched and she lost the courage that had gotten her that far.
"It will be breath, I won't take most of your time"she said on the verge of tears.
"Fine, then I'll send you the address " Lisa said and hung up.
Zawadi hadnt realised she was crying until she felt warm tears on her cheek. She wiped them furiously and went into their room to get changed.
On her way to the given address, she decided to give Lucas a call.
"Hi are you missing me already? " he asked cheekily.
"Yes, actually I am missing you badly" she said, her Voice low.
"What is it love? Are you okay? " his Voice held concern and at his inquiry she started crying.
"I am on my way to go meet up with my mother. I hope we sort things out " she said and sniffed.
"Don't cry baby. I am sure all will be fine. Send me the address and I'll come meet you there " he said.
"Okay, I'll send it "she said and hung up. Then she turned her attention to her phone, and forwarded the address to him.
"We are here maam" The driver's voice brought Zawadi back to reality.
"Thank you" she said getting out of the car. She took a deep breath as she surveyed the place before her.
Elegant would be the perfect word to describe it. It clearly screamed 'expensive '.
She gave a weak smile when she spotted Lisa already seated at a table on the far end of the hotel.
'Calm down. it will all be fine" she whispered in an attempt to convince herself otherwise.
"Hi" she greeted Lisa as she sat herself opposite her.
"You are late" she said coldly, not bothered to return Zawadi's greeting.
"I am sorry. I was stuck in traffic " she said simply.
"Why did you call me here? Don't tell me that man of yours has already gotten tired of you. Did he kick you out of his house? Is that why you are here? " she asked with a smirk.
"She is not tired of me. She loves me. Not that you will understand " she said calmly.
"He will soon" Lisa muttered under her breath, but smirked when she noticed Zawadi wince. An indication that she had heard her.
"I just want us to sought out our issues. You are my mother and I love you. No matter what you say, I know that you love me too. "she told her.
"There is no relationship between us. You are NOT my daughter. My daughter is dead" she all but shouted.
"I don't understand, why do you hate me so much? " she asked, tears threatening to spill from her eyes.
You want to know why? Fine I'll tell you"she said looking at her in disgust.
