A Second in Command III

"So . . . Tell more specifics about what you wish to achieve my love." Riveria bade Nox to share and having now fully accepted her as a reliable second in command who wished to join and support him in all of his doings, whatever they might be, he decided to be completely honest with her.

"Alright m'lady, I sure will. First thought I will begin by sharing my thoughts on the more short terms future and goals that I have envisioned." Nox responded.

Riveria nodded as if to say "Go right ahead." and so, he began explained some of the things he had done as well as what he planned to do and his reasons why.

"As I've said before, I made several black market dealings to acquire illegal, restricted or otherwise unavailable resources for my various projects." Nox started.

"However, since associating with such low rungs of society might cause some serious backlash amongst certain circles, which I wish to avoid, I took various measures to ensure my identity remained a mystery." He continued.

"The first was to limit direct contact as much as possible, something which became easier after a working relationship had been established but when that was not possible, i acted as if I was representing an organization rather than being a single individual."

"I did this through my choice of wording of course but furthermore, I also used magical means, both items and spells, to take various forms using multiple disguises while also acting differently each encounter."

"By doing so, I was able to enforce the idea that none of my less reputable associates were working with a single individual but with an organization with numerous agents."

"That was very smart of you. If you were that cautious, it is rather unlçikely we have to worry about getting tracked down and found through there." Riveria commented.

"True. But still, all it takes is for something to go wrong. If a fight breaks out, my disguise may not hold, specially if I'm forced to show enough power to greatly narrow down the possible individuals that would fit the profile." Nox shared his concern.

"As such, I've been planning on acquiring disposable goons to take care of such dealings for me. I will still disguise them since having members of Evilus floating around will draw all kinds of unwanted attention but this way, even if they are discovered, it will simply be a case of criminals being criminals, nothing else." He revealed the main reason for wanting such expendable slaves.

"I certainly see your point." Riveria nodded.

"And I agree with your decision in that regard. How about the actual process of acquiring these disposable goons as you seem to have taken to calling them?" She the inquired.

"I already have plenty of info on their little hidey hole, it is merely a matter of preparing the necessary supplies, redying our forces and pick the correct moment for the attack. There is still a very important preparation on my side however, we cannot move before that is done." Nox replied.

"I get the feeling there are things you are still keeping to yourself . . . That special preparation being most certainly related to at least some of it." Riveria shared her suspicions.

"As perceptive as always my love . . . But there are things I will always want to keep to myself . . . So that if by any chance, things take a turn for the worst regardless of my caution and preparations, none of you girls are implicated." Nox responded.

"Were are part of your group. We have benefitted from your special abilities and to outsiders, we will be those closest to you, who ought to know all your secrets. We'll always be implicated." Riveria argued.

"Maybe in the eyes of the people yes . . . But in the eyes of the gods . . . They will know whether or not you are involved in my greatest of secrets . . . As such, they are things I will never share unless I absolutely have to . . . Or if the time comes where I no longer need to fear their revelation to the world . . ." Nox said.

It was ominous to say the least, and the way Nox put things . . . Riveria could honestly say it frightened her to the core. It made her wonder whether she truly knew the man in front of her who she claimed to love, who she thought she loved . . .

Though from his words, she grasped a very important piece of information about Nox's secrets. They were not things that would be condemned directly by the people, they were things under the purview of the gods.

In other words, they were not crimes against the people, but blasphemous secrets that would draw upon the ire of the beings none could afford to truly anger.

'But what could he have done . . . No . . . What is he doing? Is the proper question . . .' Riveria thought to herself.

Alas, as an individual born in the world of DanMachi, Nox actions and ideas, were not something she could even conceive, it was not a matter of intelligence or smarts, the high elfess most likely surpassed Nox in that regards, it was a matter of one's point of view.

And because Nox's previous life had made his point of view, his way of thinking, so radically different that the the ones belonging to those of this world, that he could come up with things they would never imagine.

It was why he could thrive and rise above the masses with his spectacular magic and other creations but it was also the reason it was so easy for him to step into a path that would dangerously tear apart the Order of the world of DanMachi . . .
