The Mission

"You will be heading to Canada today. We captured a demigod in Mayfield and we have him in captivity from one of our facilities in Canada."

"A demigod! I thought they were all dead."

"Not really, most of them are though. But the ones who exist currently don't usually involve themselves in our activities, his one showed up immediately after Mrs. Crater was attacked like he was waiting for us. Lucky for us he wasn't strong enough to fight our Kanju so we captured him, we did some running on him and his name is Conner Reyes a fifteen-year-old Canadian boy. "

"Okay, then what am I supposed to do when I get there?"

"Am getting there, Conner Reyes father was a demigod who was killed by a godslayer, something the both of you have in common. I want you to bring him on our side and convince him that we just want to save the world as much as he does. I believe he might be a great asset for this company, provided he masters his powers,"

"Your mother spent time trying to crack find out why Crater was so special, she experimented on the small blood samples we collected from his son." The chairwoman produced a flash drive and handed it to Oscar. "This is her report on all the experiments concerning demigods and godslayers~~there are videos too, which will give you a general idea of what went on. It wasn't completed because of what happened in Moscow.

"But we believe that the boy showed up at that house at that specific time for a reason."

And then?"Oscar turned the memory stick in his fingers. It was strange he was going to see his mother again soon in those videos

We can use him to get to the boy, the chairwoman replied. "That's what this is all about. It's like I said the boy has his father's greatness. Imagine what we can do with his blood, we can unlock the magic and break the wall between humans and mages. And you will get your reward."

You mean get killed?"

The woman smiled. Her skin barely moved, but it was there in her eyes. "It could come to that, Oscar. Let's face it. We're heading towards the end of the world as we know it. How many hundreds of thousands of people do you think have taken their last breath while you and I have been having this conversation in this nice office, with this pleasant glass of wine? That's how it has always been. You can't think too much about these things because there's nothing you can do--so why bother? If I were you, I'd take the same altitude to your future. Do as you're told and don't worry too much about what's going to happen. Because one thing is for sure, if you fail in this, you'll be killed before you have time to blink! "

I won't fail, ma'am."

I know that, it's why you've been chosen." the chairwoman finished her drink. "There's a plane waiting to take you to Canada. Let me know when the boy is ready and I'll let you know what happens next."

Thank you, ma'am. Thank you for this opportunity."

"You deserve it, Oscar. Enjoy it."

Yes." he nodded. "the boss said that you send men to the world forge."

Hmm. . .okay, I will get on that." she said.

Since they were finished with this short meeting, he stood up, and at the same time the office doors opened--Oscar only looked back for a few seconds to see who had come through, when he turned back the chairwoman was now a man in his mid-sixties.

"Chairman." the man who had just entered saluted. He was in army-printed clothes and by the looks of it, he must have been of high position because his shirt had a lot of medals attached to it. So that's why everyone called her chairman. She could use magic to change her appearance.

Oscar didn't want to stay any longer so he took his leave and left the chairman and soldier to discuss whatever matter he had brought forward

A few hours later, in the air of Los Angeles, Oscar Lake saw his mother again. Her fave filled the computer screen that rested on the table in front of him.

He had always thought there was something deeply unattractive about her. She looked more like a man than a woman, with her hair cut so short, and with those thin shoulders and a long neck. As always, she was dressed in black, a pantsuit that didn't flatter her at all. She'd never worn makeup or very much jewelry. Her face was so washed out and had this been a black and white film, it wouldn't have made any difference.

It was the man she was in the video who fascinated Oscar, he was in a lab coat with her running through the test results. This was Ryan Carter ten years ago. He was a very handsome man, Oscar thought, with that long, dark hair, sculptured features, and bright blue eyes.

Demigods and godslayers are different but similar in many ways," Samantha Lake was saying on the screen. How long had it been ever since he had heard her voice? "We start with the fact that demigods can't use Altaen crystals, just as humans. They are faster and stronger depending on which god they are related to. For example, if one is related to Thor there is a possibility that he/she has godlike powers that connect them with Thor-like weather control, fascinating isn't it?"

"Godslayers on the other hand are more like wizard warriors with a very different genetic structure. A genetic structure is so unique in a way that it allows them to bond with magic in a special way I can't explain. They respond perfectly with Altaen crystals."--Ryan pulled up a transparent glass cylinder that contained a glowing crystal-- "these crystals are rare on earth and just acquiring this one cost seven hundred million dollars, these can only be used by only godslayers" she touched the glass surface. "just touching one crystal ends up sending an infinite amount of energy a normal human can't handle."

The camera moved closer and Oscar froze the image. The crystal seemed very close now. He reached out and ran his finger down the glass as if he wanted to touch the crystal. It felt good. He was going to enjoy this assignment. Whatever happened to him in the future, it would be worth it.

The plane soared over the cloud, carrying him North to Canada.
