"We went out for a year. Then she asked me to ask her hand in marriage formally, from her parents. Majid came with me as my elder brother. If you think about it, A Sikh brothered a Muslim and went to ask a Hindu to marry him; how funny and interesting and unusual." He took a long pause.

"But her family did not find us funny or interesting; one thing led to another and soon they found out that we were orphans and decided that I was unwanted and unworthy of their daughter's love." He was trying to hide his teary eyes.
