Chapter 5

I went home and thought about the information I'd been given. I still wasn't sure if I believed Thanatos or not. It all seemed so far-fetched. And it was hard for me to believe that it was just a coincidence that they emails after I had given my business email to The Memitim.

With a heavy sigh, I plopped down on the couch and turned on the TV. I silently flipped through the channels looking for something to watch—a distraction to take my mind off of everything that had been going on lately.

I was about an hour into a superhero movie when my phone rang. I let it go to voicemail since I never actually answered the phone anyway. Mainly because I didn't know if my voice could affect people through the phone. That was something I should've asked Thanatos about. I decided I'd call him tomorrow and ask about it. He hadn't gotten a pained look in his eyes when I spoke to him, like so many people before had. So, I figured I could believe him that my voice didn't harm him.

My phone rang again, and again I let it go to voicemail. I picked up the device to listen to the voicemails but found that the person calling hadn't left any. With a heavy sigh, I tossed my phone back on the couch beside me.

After the fifth call, I put the phone on silent, not wanting the ringing to interrupt any more of my movie marathon. That didn't work. The vibrating was just as annoying and distracting as the ringing.

halfway through my marathon, I was getting so annoyed with the buzzing of my phone that I finally and answered the damn thing. "Hello?" My voice was annoyed yet cautious.

"Andy, it's Azrael. I would like to talk with you about working with my organization. We think you would be a lovely fit."

"Not interested. And how did you get my number?"

"It's a shame you should say that. We don't take kindly to no. You will join us, or you will regret your decision."

"How did you get my number?"

"That's not important. Your rejection of our offer isn't something we can accept, and it will pose a problem for you and those close to you."

Part of me hoped my voice could cause harm over the phone and that this asshole was not a reaper so that I could make him suffer. "Just leave me alone."

"I know you went and spoke with The Ferrymen today. Joining them would also not end well for you or those close to you. I'll give you time to think about my offer." And with that, the line when dead.

I pulled my phone from my ear and looked at it in confusion. I wanted to ask him what offer he was talking about because all he did was threaten me.

Why did these two groups want me> It wasn't like I was special or anything. I was just a Reaper. I had to admit that while I was annoyed with Azrael, he had me pretty scared.
